Autumn is the absolute best time to go glamping in my opinion. It's not too cold, it gets dark pretty early so you can enjoy a proper campfire and the whole thing just has cosy hygge vibes at this time of year.
I can highly recommend the Black Hut at Sycamore Glamping (watch our video review here) and Herding Hill Farm is excellent if you're looking for a site with excellent facilities.

Visit Raby Castle Deer Park

Raby Castle Deer Park just looks stunning in Autumn and is a beautiful place for a walk. The Deer Park is home to two species of Deer and it is during Autumn that you may witness their 'rutting' season.
You may hear the clash of antlers and the roar of the stags as they challenge each other. It's an impressive display so make sure you bring your binoculars to enjoy from a safe distance.

Bonfire Night
Bonfire Night is always something to get excited about. Here's my guide to some of the best places to watch a fireworks display across the North East (this post still needs to be updated for this year.)
Oktoberfest

If you're looking for somewhere you can celebrate with the kids, Oktoberfestbier starts at The Broad Chare on October 5th. You can expect some authentic German food on the specials boards alongside some interesting German beers. Reservations recommended.
Make Your Christmas Cake
Autumn is the best time to make your Christmas Cake. I like to make mine in October. You can check out the super easy Christmas Cake recipe I use here.
Enjoy the Apple Orchard at Gibside
The Apple Orchard at Gibside is at it's best in Autumn and on specific dates you can often help to pick apples too. Keep an eye on their website for dates.
Make Slow Cooker Fudge
Autumn is prime slow cooker season but this doesn't mean you are stuck with making casseroles. Did you know you can make your fudge in a slow cooker? It's super easy. Check out my step-by-step instructions here.

Autumn is the season of Scarecrow Festivals! Some people are so creative and I love seeing all of the different designs. Here are a few dates for your diary:

Take a Hot Chocolate Walk
Autumn is the best season to enjoy a brisk walk followed by a hot chocolate. This post shares the Best Places for Hot Chocolate with a Walk in the North East.
Go Stargazing
With the darker nights, Autumn is the perfect time to go stargazing. We are very lucky in the North East to have access to some pristine dark skies. You can either book onto an organised event or just pop along to a stargazing site in your own time. The following resources may be of interest:
Make a S'mores Board
I absolutely love doing this and it's a nice activity to try on an autumn evening. I've put together a post with ideas for how to make your own S'mores board here.
Catch a Sunset or Sunrise in the North East

By the time we reach the end of October, the sun will rise at 7:45am and set at 4:40pm. If you want to catch a sunset/sunrise, there is no need to stay up extra early or extra late.
Have an Extra Hour in Bed
Don't forget, we gain an extra hour at 2am on Sunday 29 October. I recommend making the most of this with an extra hour in bed (if you don't have young children of course).
