September highlights

Swim. Eat. Play. at PaddlePod 







This fantastic deal is available at all three PaddlePod sites - Killingworth, Whitley Bay at Shiremoor 

These sessions are just £8.50 per person and include: 
  • A 60 minute swim in a heated pool with pool toys and floats available 
  • A panini/sandwich and hot drink for adults and a kids meal for children from the welcoming on-site cafe 
  • A play in the PaddlePod play area (which have just been revamped and look gorgeous) 
These sessions are exclusively for children aged 0-5 years, each adult can be responsible for up to two children in the water (or feel free to bring more than one grown up). Under 1s go free (food will not be provided for under 1s).

Todder Takeover at Discovery Museum

πŸ‘©‍πŸ‘§This Tiny Sparks special event, designed specifically for toddlers aged 3-5 years old is back on Wednesday 20 September

😊 The vibe is relaxed and welcoming. Feel free to explore the activities at your own pace and try as much or little as you like. You'll be given a leaflet with activity information on arrival. Younger siblings are more than welcome to come along too - just book them a free ticket.

πŸ‘€ Top Tips for Visiting Discovery Museum with your Toddler πŸ‘€

πŸš‚ Discovery Museum is a short walk from Newcaslte Central Station. Why not travel by train or Metro?

🚘 Limited car parking is available outside the museum on Blandford Square (NE1 4HZ) or Grainger Town Multi-Story Car Park (NE1 4AU) is a few minutes walk away

πŸ‘ Don't miss the Shaun the Sheep on the Tyne Sculpture located just outside of the museum

πŸ‘©‍🦽The museum is accessible for pushchairs and wheelchairs with lifts to all floors and a changing places toilet

🚾 Baby change facilities are available in the male and female toilets on the ground, second and fourth floor

🍰 There is a child-friendly cafe in the museum selling hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, cakes and children's lunchboxes or you're welcome to bring a packed lunch - just ask staff on arrival for where the packed lunch space is that day




North Sea Weekender Silent Disco at Cullercoats 




Taking place at Cullercoats Beach on Saturday 23 September, the inaugural North Sea Weekender Silent Disco is all about family. 

A full bar selling soft and alcoholic drinks will be available at both events. 

There are two events to choose from: 
  • Silent Disco Tots (1-3pm) 
    Expect a fun packed two hours with a laid back family beach vibe. There will be beach games, lots of dancing and party hits and the grown ups won't be forgotten with the DJ spinning hits from the 80s, 90s and 00s too. A perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

    This event is recommended for families with younger children but all are welcome. Find out more and book tickets here. 

  • Silent Disco for All (4pm-7pm) 
    The perfect event for families with tweens/teens (although all ages are welcome). Why not plan to meet up with friends as a final farewell to summer on the beach?

    Expect live DJs and party vibes for music loving families without the 18+ age restriction. Find out more and book tickets here. 

The SpongeBob Musical at Newcastle Theatre Royal 




🍍 KIDS GO HALF PRICE 🍍

🍍 The SpongeBob Musical is heading to Newcastle Theatre Royal from 5-9 September.

🍍 Recommended for all ages (kids aged 6+) , this hilarious show will take you on a journey right to the bottom of the sea

🍍 Starring Pop Idol's Gareth Gates and Divina De Campo from Ru Paul's Drag Race, you can expect toe-tapping songs and music alongside stunning visual effects and costumes as you are transported to another world for a couple of side-splitting hours

🀿 And of course, there will be bubbles

Great North Run & Junior Great North Run 




The Mini and Junior Great North Run takes place on NewcastleGateshead Quayside across Saturday 9 September. The atmosphere is always fantastic but do expect the area to be busier than normal. The event is now closed for new entries but if you are going along to spectate or already have your tickets, you can find out more about the schedule / what to expect here. 

The AJ Bell Great North Run takes place on Sunday 10 September. You can find out more about the route and event timetable here. 


Heritage Open Days 


Heritage Open Days take place between 9-18 September. They're an opportunity to get behind the scenes or visit a local historical/cultural venue completely free of charge. You can read more in my North East Heritage Open Days guide.
