About & Work With Me

If you'd like to discuss working together, please email Sam@northeastfamilyfun.co.uk  My Media Kit can be found at the bottom of this page or I can send you a PDF version on request. I am always happy to answer any questions.

My Story

I started blogging circa. 2008-9 when Harry was just a toddler and Heidi and Jack were just a twinkle in my eye. I loved our little days out and friends and family encouraged me to start a website as I was always recommending the best places to visit with kids. I simply googled ‘how to start a website’ and the rest was pretty much history (that blog was called The Foxes Brush and I have since deleted - MISTAKE! I’d love to read some of those posts now).

North East Family Fun was set up in 2012 after I thought to myself that I wanted my blog to have more of a focus on the North East and to be kind of like a mini tripadvisor for our region - there was a real gap in the market! In 2014 I bought my own domain and a DSLR camera (this was the first time I invested in my blog) and won North East Blogger of the Year. I was also shortlisted for a couple of National Blogging Awards and that’s when things really started to gather pace and I started earning a little bit of £ through what had previously just been a hobby. Trying to juggle life with three children, a job and a hobby like blogging is TOUGH so in 2014-15 I really pushed myself to make my blog work for me. I think back then I worked 40+ hours on my blog and social media whilst working in the NHS and trying to have some kind of a life with the kids. Luckily, it paid off and in October 2015 I was able to leave my employed job and blog full time. I am so pleased I took this leap of faith and have honestly never looked back.

I have loved every second of my journey. I no longer have to work 60+ hour weeks (although sometimes this is still the case) and North East Family Fun has now grown beyond the North East - I absolutely love the connection I have with my readers and I always think of my Facebook page as more a proper community rather than just a place for me to share blog posts. My heart with always sit firmly in Northumberland and I continue to share a lot of North East content, but I’m proud that North East Family Fun now has a national audience too (we were ranked as the #1 family travel blog in the UK for 2017 by Tots 100 in 2017 and 40k-60k readers visit our blog each month) and we are now able to enjoy adventures around the world and share and inspire others to do the same. We’re a family of 5 - there’s me Sam, my husband Steve and our three children Harry (11), Heidi (9) and Jack (7). We love trying new experiences and going on all sorts of adventures from wild camping and cooking on an open fire to staying in luxury resorts and enjoying days out riding rollercoasters or exploring museums and historic places. We’re always keen to learn something new and spending time together as a family is super important to us. Good food is also a huge priority and decent local restaurants are always the first thing I look for when booking a holiday.

Over the past few years we’ve enjoyed some fantastic experiences through blogging from shooting a commercial with a full crew in Orlando and creating video content for DFDS Seaways to working with brands such as Disney, Merlin and Tui alongside lots of local brands and businesses too. It’s been a dream and I can’t wait to see what 2018 has in store for us.
