Morpeth Outdoor Paddling Pool

This post was published in April 2026. Always check information with venues direct before heading out as timings can change.

Morpeth Outdoor Paddling Pool

Morpeth Paddling Pool is located inside Carlisle Park, Morpeth and is managed by Morpeth Town Council.

🗓 Open daily from the last weekend in May until the first weekend in September
❌ No booking or tickets needed - it's free and you can just turn up (no set hours - it's there all of the time)
💻 Sometimes the pool does need to close for maintenance, check Morpeth Town Council Facebook page before heading out (they usually post if the pool has to close)

🚾 Toilets, Cafe & Food Vans inside the park

Morpeth Paddling Pool is a fab day out! There are a few benches next to the pool but these do go quickly so I would recommend bringing along a picnic blanket for the day.

Carlisle Park is lovely with two play areas, formal gardens, a woodland area, riverside walk with ducks and stepping stones, the paddling pool, rowing boat hire, a cafe, toilets, outdoor gym equipment , sports courts and food vans. Sometimes they have a bouncy castle set up too. There are picnic tables, benches and plenty of green space.

Car Parking at Morpeth Outdoor Paddling Pool

You can park fairly close to the park at Newgate Street East / West which has a 3 hour limit (NE61 1LN) or Mathesons Gardens which is a long stay car park (NE41 1QE). Both are free with a Northumberland Parking Disc displayed (you can purchase one on arrival if you don't already have one).

These car parks can get busy though so you may be better off parking further into town and walking to the park. Here's a list of car parks: https://www.northumberland.gov.uk/parking/parking-locations/morpeth-car-parks

Public Transport to Morpeth Outdoor Paddling Pool

Carlisle Park is less than a 10 minute, easy walk from Morpeth Bus Station or Morpeth Railway Station.

Other Things to do in Morpeth Town Centre

A visit to the legendary Morpeth Fortune Cookies Chinese Van for lunch is a must! Located in the Car Park next to the park (just across the bridge). It's cash only but their lunch deals are only £4. Bargain! There's an ice cream van too.

If you walk along the riverside a little, you'll find Morpeth Steppy Stones which are always fun to jump over (directions here). At time of publishing, they are closed for repairs (April 2026) but I would hope they'd be back open when the pool opens in May.

Other activity options in the town centre:
  • Book Soft Play or Swimming at Morpeth Leisure Centre
  • Browse Morpeth Market (every Wednesday)
  • Visit Morpeth Bagpipe Museum
  • Try a Morpeth Treasure Trail
  • Fantastic Shopping
  • Lots of Lovely Independent Restaurants & Cafes
  • Try to Escape Northumberland Escape Room
  • Visit Playdium (near the train station)

On the Way Home......

There's a fantastic Pirate themed Crazy Golf Course on the outskirts of Morpeth and it's open late into the evening (info here).

If you're leaving in the afternoon (or looking for somewhere to stop for breakfast on the way there), Moorhouse Farm Shop just off the A1 near Stannington is fab. There's a farm shop and cafe plus you can visit the resident farm animals for free and there are free play tractors and sandpits for kids. Find out more here.

Moorhouse Farm

And Plessey Woods is just along the road from Morpeth with places to paddle, an enclosed playground and lovely woodland walks. Find out more here.
