The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Beacons in North East England

As part of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebrations this year, over 1500 beacons will be lit across the the UK and commonwealth on the evening of 2nd June 2022 in recognition of the Queen's long and selfless service.

Please always check details with venue direct before setting off as information may change.

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Beacons in North East England

These beacons are designed to bring local communities together to celebrate this historic milestone.

The beacons will be lit between 9:45pm & 10pm on 2 June but many events will start with additional entertainment before this. The official time is supposed to be 9:45pm but a few events are lighting their beacons at 10pm.

If you'd like to attend an event, I would urge you to find the beacon which is closest to you as they events have been designed to involve the local community. If you do need to drive a short distance to get to your closest event, make sure you park responsibly.

Events will differ across the region but you may find an evening of entertainment including town criers, buglers, cornet players, choirs singing the official song for the commonwealth, food vans, fireworks and more.

It has been tricky trying to find an official list of events and I have relied on asking my readers for events they know about for this post so if you are keen to attend Beacon event, please contact your local council or the venue mentioned or check their social media before setting out for the most up-to-date information.

You can also search the official Platinum Jubilee website for Beacon events near you, but it looks like not every event has registered with this.

A special 'song for the commonwealth' has been commissioned especially for this event and will be performed by local groups and choirs. If you'd like to familiarise yourself with the lyrics, you can find them below and listen online here.

In most cases, events are free and tickets are not required - you can just turn up (but do check as there may be a couple of exceptions).
