Our 2021 Review & Photos

We had an absolutely brilliant time. The trail lasted around an hour and was all outside / not too crowded so the perfect festive event for these current times. It also meant we could take Ollie along and he could join in too (he loved it).

The ice sculptures all had a bit of a winter theme with snowflakes, reindeer and penguin sculptures among others. They were all really easy to find and beside each sculpture was a friendly steward dishing out advice and handing out maps.

The event was completely free and we were chuffed to receive a lovely book at the end. A nice little prize! There was the option of a big festive lollipop too.

The trail was also a good opportunity to support some of the local businesses in Redcar and we couldn't resist this pick and mix sweet stall and the market to take some treats home with us.

The atmosphere was so good with Christmas trees, festive music and walkabout acts posing for photos and waving to and entertaining passers by.

How lovely is this Little Drummer Boy Ice Sculpture? It's kind of a shame they have to melt away.

The trail was accessible and takes you along Redcar High Street and the Sea Front. We couldn't resist a little walk along the beach to break up the trail. Honestly, Redcar beach is a real hidden gem. It's always so quiet and one of those beaches which goes on for miles and is lovely and sandy.

As well as admiring the sculptures, we collected the letters to spell out a festive word which kept the kids (and Steve) guessing.

There were a few additional activities too including being able to watch a 'live' ice sculpture take place (I think this was Santa's sleigh and he made an appearance later in the day too).

Plus there was a dedicated Ice Post Box and letter writing station. Dee and Jack did not want to take part in this (too old!!) but I don't think you're ever too old so decided to get in the spirit of things and write my own letter which Dee kindly posted for me. I hope Santa receives it ok!

There was a little printing station too where you could make your own prints. All completely free!

The event was extremely well organised and it was so nice to see kids running between the sculptures so excited to find the next one and enjoying the walkabout acts and additional activities. It really was one of those proper family days out suitable for all ages and a huge success. I hope it returns next year.
