2 for 1 Garden Entry with Gardeners' World Magazine

This popular deal is back for 2023.....

The deal isn't for everyone so please do the math and check to see if it will save you cash before buying the magazine. There are quite a few restrictions to be aware of too.

How to gain 2 for 1 entry to some of the UK's most popular gardens

416 gardens are taking part this year. Two adults can gain entry for the price of one and there are some options for single person discount too.

Your 2 for 1 card comes free with May's issue of Gardeners' World magazine and can be used as much as you like for a full year until 5 April 2024 (within restrictions).

You will find your 2 for 1 card on the inside flap of May's Gardeners' World magazine which can be ordered online here (to be posted out on/around 13 April) or if you would like to save postage, you can pick a copy up from most supermarkets or newsagents from around 13 April. The magazine is £8.50 plus postage if you order online. You will also receive 6 packs of seeds.

Within the magazine, you will also find a directory with listings and information for the gardens taking part. Some may need to be pre-booked and circumstances can change so always check ahead with the venue before booking.

The 2 for 1 card can generally be used to gain one free entry with a paying adult. It doesn't state whether this entry can be a child or if it has to be an adult. Check individual venues for exact t&cs.

Keep your card safe as it cannot be replaced and remember to take it with you when you visit a garden, even if you have had to pre-book as you may need to show your 2 for 1 card to gain entry.

For me, it is a no-brainer. I love Gardeners' World magazine anyway and Steve and I often visit gardens just us two so I am sure we will save money pretty much straight away. There are a few gardens on the list in Yorkshire which I am planning to visit anyway this year so the discount is a bonus.

Please read the small print before purchasing. For example, you cannot use your card multiple times for one group.

Where can I use the 2 for 1 card in Northern England?

Click here to see the full list of gardens taking part in Northern England.

There are 40 gardens where you can use your card in Northern England. Again, I will reiterate, always double check t&cs, especially around excluded dates and if there are any booking requirements. Many of these options offer single person disount with your card too.

Highlights include:
  • 2 for 1 entry to Alnwick Garden (not valid 22 July - 5 September plus Bank Holidays). Please note this is for the garden only and does not offer 2for1 entry to the largest playground in the world.

Don't miss the fabulous cherry blossom (some time in April/May) and the beautiful rose garden. I highly recommend visiting Alnwick Garden without kids too if you get the chance.

  • 2 for 1 entry to Belsay Hall (not valid on event days or Bank holidays).

Belsay Hall is coming to the end of some exciting changes and a new playground and cafe is opening soon. The gardens are magnificent here and some of my favourite in the North East. Especially during Rhododendron season.

  • 2 for 1 entry to Gibside (not valid on Bank Holidays or Easter Weekend).

Gibside is a place you can enjoy endless days out. This year they're hosting a cherry blossom festival and their apple weekends are fab too. Across the year they host many events and there are lots of walks to enjoy as well as a fabulous castle themed playgroud.

  • 2 for 1 entry to Durham University Botanic Gardens

Ideal for when you are looking for some peace in Durham City Centre.

  • 2 for 1 entry to Dilston Physic Garden

Dilston Physic Garden is a real hidden gem. It honestly nearly feels magical! Definitely recommend a trip here.

  • 2 for 1 entry to Lowther Castle and Gardens (not valid on event days).

Home to the best adventure playground in the Lake District. Worth the travel for a day trip or if you're staying nearby.

  • 2 for 1 entry to Mount Grace Priory (not valid on event days or bank holidays)

  • 2 for 1 entry to Thorp Perrow (valid June, July, September, December, January and February only)

  • 2 for 1 entry to Birkheads Secret Garden. Not valid on Sundays, Bank Holidays or event days.

  •  2 for 1 entry to Helmsley Walled Garden (not valid on event days)

  • 2 for 1 entry to Brodsworth Hall (not valid on event days or Bank Holidays)
You can use your 2 for 1 card as many times as you like across the year and it is valid at over 400 properties so brilliant if you are planning a UK staycation this year.

  1. Hi, just wondered how you get on with the 2for1 when a lot of places require you to prebook and prepay. Buy 1 ticket and just hope they let the 2nd person in is a bit risky if they are strict on numbers? Thanks

  2. Lots of gardens had pre-booking in place when lockdown ended but the majority are walk-up as well now. The 2 for 1 Gardens guide and directory do mention if booked is essential or recommended. If you've booked correctly, the offer is confirmed - you just have to show your 2 for 1 Gardens card on the day of your visit to validate your booking.
