Bats and Pizza Night at Wild Northumbrian

Wild Intrigue are a lovely small ecotourism social enterprise who aim to rewild, inspire and educate through their fantastic events. We have been lucky enough to attend Wild Intrigue events in the past and I can hand on heart say they are some of the best events I've ever been to.

They have a super relaxed vibe and are a brilliant way to learn more about wildlife in the North East and you will leave feeling inspired to learn / do more.

This post will share a few of the events you can now book with Wild Intrigue for the year ahead:

Wild Intrigue Events at Walltown Quarry

Walltown Quarry in Northumberland National Park is a fantastic place to visit and we have enjoyed a few walks here over the years. It's super close to Hadrian's Wall and would be it would be easy to combine an event here with nearby attractions (including the Roman Army Museum, the Sill, Housesteads Roman Fort and Sycamore Gap).

If you're looking for somewhere to stay nearby, I can highly recommend Herding Hill Camping & Glamping which is a short drive away.

Events at Walltown Quarry include:

Walltown Wild Sounds Safari

This event is suitable for ages 13+ and adults. You can expect a guided acoustic safari where you will enjoy the wild sounds of spring, learn more about and connect with nature around you.

Dawn Chorus Disco

Suitable for early risers (I would recommend 12+), this special early morning event allows you to enjoy one of spring's most stunning events. Ouseburn Bat Safari

Everyone is welcome to join this alternative view of Newcastle at night. Setting off at sunset with a bat detector in hand, track the city's bats as they emerge from their roosts for their first meal of the night. Bat detectors will allow you to listen to the bats' ultrasound clicks, slaps and pops as they communicate with each other.

This event will allow you to learn more about these incredible creatures who unfairly get a bad rep across the world, despite cruising the skies for millions of years.

This hour long circular guided walk around the quayside will share fascinating stories and insights into the life of these Kittiwakes and as the sun sets, you'll have the opportunity to view these beautiful birds up close in the beautiful evening light.

Wild Intrigue Events at Wild Northumbrian

Wild Northumbrian is a rural glamping site in Northumberland National Park and the perfect backdrop to two fantastic events.

Family Bats and Pizza Nights

We enjoyed this night a few years ago and highly recommend. Your evening starts with the chance to make (and enjoy) your own pizza with a selection of toppings available and unlimited non-alcoholic drinks. It sets the scene for a relaxing evening.

You then embark on a guided wildlife safari as the sun starts to set. You may be able to hear a Tawny Owl hooting or Roe Deer barking. The team will be on hand with wildlife facts and information and point you in the best places to look.

The evening ends with a bat safari where you will use bat detectors to listen into echolocation and watch as bats fly above. This is followed by hot chocolates and a de-brief / lots of bat facts around the campfire.

Honestly it's such a good alternative night and I will always rave about this experience.

Family Dates:
  • July 8th, 20th & 21st

What a fantastic range of events! If you're reading this and fancy an event without kids, you should also check out Wild Intrigue's Bats & Beer Nights and Spirit of the Wild in collaboration with Hepple Gin.

If you are heading West, why not add Breakfast with Red Squirrels to your trip? This event takes place in the Lake District National Park and the photos always look wonderful.

Wild Intrigue Gift Vouchers are also available and would make a fab gift.
