20+ Halloween Events in North East England


Lots of you have been asking for Halloween Event Ideas and are looking to book something now so I thought I'd put together a quick guide to some of the region's best events.

Please note I may have worked with some of the attractions mentioned in this post in the past but nobody has asked or paid to be included in this guide.

1 - Chalk present The Witches
(ages 7+) - book here


Make a mouse mask, create a creepy nose & learn how to spot a real-life witch before settling down to watch this classic movie. 

2 - Family Fright Fest 
(ages 1-12) - book here 
There's loads going on with a fun scare maze, magic shows, live bands, pumpkin carving, spooky tales tipi, fairground rides, photo station, food stalls and more. 

3 - Spooky Half Term at Belsay Hall 
(all ages) - book here

Creepy Crafts, A Witches Trail and Fancy Dress Competition


4 - Halloween Spooky Walk at Preston Park 
(early evening sessions for under 5s and later sessions for over 5s and grown ups) - book here (on sale 1 October)

A host of weird and wonderful creatures will inhabit the grounds for one night only. Entry via Park & Ride Ghost Coaches.


5 - Satanic Panic at Brocksbushes 
(ages 12+) - book here

Terrifying figures are walking around the farm at night. 

6 - Spooky Night at the Discovery Museum
(under 7s and their families) - book here 


A fun evening at the museum with bewitching tales, Halloween crafts, a devilish disco and ghoulish games. 

7 - Wynyard Hall Trick or Treat Trail
(all ages) - book here


Dress up and search Wynyard's Gardens for ghoulish gargoyles in their Halloween trail. 

8 - Beamish Halloween Evenings 
(all ages) - book here

Ghosts and terrifying creatures will take over Beamish with lots of spooky surprises and entertainment in store. 

9 - Witches, Wizards & Slytherin Day at Lanchester Garden Centre
(various ages) - book here

Create your own prophecy ball, wand or join a broomstick class (all to be booked individually).

10 - Ghost Stories of Woodhorn Museum
(ages 5+) - find out more here


Join professional storyteller Stephen Skelton as he shares the spooky past of Woodhorn Museum. There will be a pumpkin trail and Birds of Prey on display too.

11 - Seven Stories Ghost Tour
(ages 8+ and their families) - book here 


Take a tour with spiritualist Madame Arfarti who will reach to the other side in a bid to meet Ouseburn's past residents. 

12 - The Exorcist at Newcastle Castle

Enjoy the 1970s classic in the Castle's Great Hall. 

13 - Tanfield Ghost Train

Join the Tanfield Ghost Train, meet the freaky fire-breather, hold an owl or snake and build up the courage to walk through the spooky tunnel. 

14 - Paranormal or Paranoia at Life

Take part in the centre's first ever paranormal investigation with Scientists from Northumbria University.

Expect a Halloween Tattoo Bar, Zombie Face Painting, Spooky Photo Booth and Monster Mash Disco. 

17 - Drop-in Creepy Crafts at Wharton Park

No need to book this one, simply drop-in and enjoy creating creepy crafts. 

18 - Mini Villains Ball at Lanchester Garden Centre
(all ages) - book here 

Bring along your carved pumpkins, join the fancy dress parade, enjoy a spooky disco/games and meet special guests The Joker, Maleficent and Cruella. 

19 - Halloween Dissection Class
(ages 18+) - book here


Learn how to dissect a sheep's heart with Halloween treats and all tools provided. 

20 - Bongo's Bingo Halloween Specials -

Everyone's favourite Bongo's Bingo is putting on a Halloween Special that's not to be missed. 

21 - Whitehouse Farm Halloween Sppoktacular and Halloween Afternoon Tea - (all ages) - book here

Creep through the walkway of terror, pick a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch to carve, meet the owls and creepy crawlies & more......

22 - The Haunting of Halloween at Holmside Park - book here





Expect use of Holmside Park's facilities plus a 45 minute adventure through the woods, a knife and axe throwing session and laser games through four unique zones.

  1. Ooh so much good stuff going on here. I like the sound of Witches, Wizards & Slytherin Day at Lanchester Garden Centre. We might head to Preston Park too as I really enjoyed their halloween event the other year. I'm quite torn as we would like to go away abroad that week too but the kids love halloween so I'm not sure!
