11 - Tar Bar'l Festival

A reader recommended the Tar Bar'l Festival in Allendale. 45 local men carry whisky barrels filled with burning hot tar through the town in one of the most spectacular fire festivals still practised today. I haven't been myself but I'm assured it's fine for kids and Visit Northumberland states on their website that children are welcome. With dancing and music in the streets, it sounds like a party not to be missed.

12 - The BonBon Family-Friendly NYE Blowout

An early-evening event featuring a show, mini disco and countdown at Alphabetti Theatre. Find out more and book here.

13 - New Year's Eve Family Party at Doubletree by Hilton Newcastle Airport
