10 things to do at Butlins Skegness when the sun is shining

We have just returned from a fabulous weekend term-time break at Butlins and are quite frankly exhausted! I have never been on holiday where there is just so much going on and so much to do. Today I thought I would share with you our top 10 things to do at Butlins when the sun is shining.

1- Play in the park

The Sun and Moon pub has it's own large outdoor terrace overlooking a lovely play park. There is lots of grass to play games on too. We spent an hour here every afternoon enjoying a glass of wine whilst the kids could run around and play with new friends.

2 - Go to the beach

Butlins Skegness has it's own direct beach access (gate closes at 6pm). The beach was lovely and sandy and despite it being a pretty warm day it was quite deserted when we visited around tea time which was nice.

3 - Enjoy the fun of the fair

The free funfair is one of the biggest advantages of Butlins Skegness over it's competitors. Open from 10am-6pm there are plenty of rides for little ones in the little stars fairground and older children/teens in the main fairground. There were never any queues for rides during our visit and it was lovely just letting the kids go on as many rides as they wanted without worrying about the cost.

4 - Stop for ice cream

Butlins Skegness has it's very own ice cream parlour on site where you can choose from a huge variety of flavours. We love the quirky outdoor seating too.

5 - Play in the outside water garden

We didn't take a photograph but there is a lovely outdoor area near the swimming pool where children can splash around and play in the water fountains (they 'dance' every 20 minutes) whilst the grown ups relax on the surrounding sun loungers.

6 - Join in with a sports activity

There are lots of sports activities to choose from. Most need to be pre-booked (check for times in the 'what's on' guide you are given on arrival and book at the booking point in the Skyline Pavillion) and some are free. You can choose from football coaching, archery, fencing, tennis and more.

7 - Relax in the gorgeous gardens

Both myself and my mum remarked just how manicured and well looked after the gardens were. In fact I'm sure I remember hearing they have actually won some awards for this! We loved the traditional deckchairs that were dotted about the site if you needed a 5 minute sit down and the grass outside our gold apartment was the perfect place for the kids to play.

8 - Hire a bike

There is a hire shop on site where you can hire a ride range of equipment from bikes for 4 to balance bikes and scooters. Most children either had their own scooters or hired them on site and there were plenty of places to lock them up too.

9 - Play mini golf

We didn't get around to playing mini golf however it was inexpensive (I think £2.50 each) and the pirate theme looked like lots of fun.

10 - Explore the local area

Skegness has a blue flag beach and is easily accessed from Butlins - you can either catch the bus that stops directly at reception or book a taxi (with a set fare) from the taxi rank at the main entrance. It is only a 5 minute drive in the car too. There are beaches, a new aquarium, traditional seaside fun, fantasy island theme park and a seal sanctuary nearby too so lots to do if you'd like to explore.
