Shop the easy way with Great British Meat Co

Everyone knows it's important to support our local small businesses and community, everyone knows it is important to minimise food miles and buy British meat where possible and everyone knows it is important to understand provenance and to know where your food comes from. Unfortunately though, life often gets in the way and all too often our good intentions of supporting a local butcher or grocer are forgotten as we pass a large supermarket where we can buy everything under one roof on our way home from work. As a small business owner myself, this really saddens me. I don't want to see a future where small businesses are no longer able to trade as everyone favours large corporations instead.

Introducing Great British Meat Co

The Great British Meat Co have found a gap in the market and aim to provide the great British public with a personal butcher's service with the convenience of being able to order from the comfort of their own home. The Great British Meat Co are not an online butcher but more like a butcher who also happen to have an online store.

Based in Gateshead, the Great British Meat Co can deliver throughout the UK and with over 40 years worth of experience between them, the three founding friends are passionate about providing personal service and sourcing only the best British meat for their customers.

How to order

Browsing the Great British Meat Co website is simple - there is a huge selection of meat to choose from ranging from bacon and sausages to rare cuts of beef. You can shop by type of meat, type of cut or special offers and simply add to your basket as you go. The website is sleek and easy to navigate around. Their BBQ packs are very popular and provide everything you need on one page for a tasty event, in just one click all you need can be added to your basket.

Everything you order from Great British Meat Co is 100% British. Expect British steak from grass fed cattle that has been naturally dry aged and cut by hand, British beef reared to the highest welfare standards and aged for 21 days, British lamb reared on grassland farms that has been hung on the bone and trimmed of excess fat to order and British poultry that has been certified with the Red Tractor scheme. Quality and taste are assured.

Fresh British Meat Cut to Order

When it is time for your order to be dispatched, your meat will be freshly prepared and hand cut by a time served master butcher. The Great British Meat Co never use frozen meat and their fantastic no-quibble customer guarantee provides complete peace of mind.

Delivery

Standard delivery is free on orders over £50 and £4.95 for orders under this amount throughout the whole of the UK (there are a few restrictions - click here for details). You choose your delivery date at check out and your order will arrive between 8am and 6pm.

All meat is individually vacuum packed by your butcher and packed in a professional restaurant standard polystyrene cool box that will keep your meat at optimum temperature during transit. You can specify a safe place to leave your delivery or even have your parcel delivered to work if that's more convenient. You can be assured that your meat will stay perfectly chilled throughout the day in it's individual cool box (which you are encouraged to recycle and use again) until you arrive home and can pop your order in the fridge/freezer.

Quality and Taste

I was highly impressed with how much information was provided on each label. All meat is fully traceable to UK farms and the weight, use by date and storage instructions are all clearly displayed.

You really can taste the difference in quality when using meat that has been carefully sourced by a butcher rather than a supermarket. The quality was fantastic and I would particularly recommend stocking your freezer with their bacon for THE BEST bacon sandwiches.

We received a selection of meat to try and have to say my hubby (who is the cook in our house) prepared us some amazing meals. I must mention that our slow cooked mince and dumplings made using Great British Meat Co Mince Steak was the best I've ever had. No pictures though as it wasn't very photogenic but take my word for it!

Homemade burgers made using Great British Meat Co Burgers

I was genuinely highly impressed with Great British Meat Co. I meal plan every two weeks and I will definitely be regularly using their website to help me plan our meals and order my meat from now on (they even have a fantastic recipe section should you need inspiration). The service, quality and taste was simply second to none and it feels wonderful knowing I am supporting a local, small business. It is such a user friendly experience too and being able to order quality produce from the comfort of my own home (and more importantly without having to take the kids shopping) is completely stress free.

  1. This place looks unreal, I definitely need to try it out. I can see myself buying a few party packs one the summer hits and there's some sunshine in the sky!

As for my steak, I used to eat it medium-rare but have recently changed to cooking it rare. Nothing better than a juicy steak, no need for sauce when cooked like that.
