Christmas Activities for Tweens & Teens (North East England)

Christmas with Teens is an absolute speciality of ours so below I have put together some suggestions for activities you can try with tweens and teens over the festive period:

  • Hire and Igloo at Newcastle Christmas Markets & enjoy festive food & drinks together

  • The Northern Stage Christmas Show and Newcastle Theatre Royal Panto are our two top picks for Christmas Shows with tweens / teens

  • There's usually a festive tipi by the river in Carlisle Park, Morpeth. They usually have a pizza truck, fire pits and live music

  • We love the decorations at Raby Castle, Bamburgh Castle,  Ormesby Hall, Wallington and Cragside. Take a trip to enjoy the decorations followed by a walk and hot chocolate somewhere

  • The Glasshouse (Gateshead Quays) usually host Christmas Concerts including Christmas at the Movies / Home Alone which are brilliant

  • Festive food is always something my teens are interested in - lots of local indies put on festive specials whether this be Meat:Stack's Christmas Burger, a Festive Parmo from Parm-o-Rama or Festive Mac n Cheese from Redheads - a nice idea for lunch out and a bit od shopping

  • My teens still enjoy a light trail - Alnwick Garden and Northern Lights Newcastle are both fab for teens

  • Bars like the Alchemist often offer Christmas Mocktails and there's usually a pop up Retro Christmas Bar in Times Square where under 18s are welcome to enjoy Christmas Mocktails during the day

  • Battlecart Gateshead is an indoor go-kart racing arena with digital race tracks. There's the option of a Christmas themed track in the run up to Christmas

  • Ice Skating is always a winner-  the outdoor ice rink in Times Square is our favourite and they run theme nights too

  • There's a one-man performance of A Christmas Carol at Gosforth Civic Theatre which receives rave reviews

  • We usually always book a retro Christmas film at the cinema (Muppet Christmas Carol and Home Alone are our faves). Most cinemas run films like this over the festive period or you can book Eatflix / Fenwick Rooftop Cinema / Festive Flix at Newcastle Christmas Markets

  • Sunderland is a good shout for an afternoon out. The FireStation usually transforms their rear courtyard into  a winter wonderland with fire pits, food trucks (festive crepes last year) and live music plus there's usually a mini fairground and festive tipi just off the high street

  • Beamish is a good choice to get into the festive spirit - get wrapped up, walk around and admire the decorations and pick up some festive treats from the stalls

  • There are Christmas themed Escape Rooms to try at Northumberland Escape Rooms (Morpeth) and  Pirate Escape (Whitley Bay)

  • Visit a Christmas Market - North Shields Christmas Market is my favourite in the North East

  • Book Festive Afternoon Tea somewhere - Dreamworld Cakes in Ouseburn is my favourite

  • Christmas Fayre at The Woodmans Arms - we love booking a Christmas meal here. The decorations are always stunning, the food is gorgeous and they offer christmas mocktails

  • Book a Christmas workshop to enjoy together - Wreath Making / Advent Calendar Making at La Choclatrice, Christmas Candle Making with Hot Wax Newcastle, Christmas Doughnut Decorating with Deep North

  • You are never too old to visit Fenwick's Window. Why not combine with a visit to Newcastle Christmas Market?

  • Enjoy a festive walk around Raby Castle Deer Park (you may spot some deer 'rutting') with a hot chocolate

  • Tyneside Cinema usually host special film events including Love Actually with Afternoon Tea

  • Hop on the train to Edinburgh / York Christmas Markets

  • Saltburn-by-the-Sea usually hosts an Ice Trail in December

I will update this post with more ideas as they are released.
