The Loft Glamping & Camping

At the end of the summer my best friend and I took our kids to Morayshire for a glamping adventure. We spent a couple of nights at The Loft, a fantastic glamping and camping site near the coast. We had a fantastic time with highlights including:

  • Wood fired hot tub with views across the fields

  • Free goat feeding every morning

  • Magical fairy trail and secret playground

  • Dark skies area, we saw loads of stars while sitting round the campfire

  • Campfires and standalone BBQs are allowed onsite (no disposable BBQs)

  • Dogs allowed (on leads, additional charge if staying in a cabin)

Location

The Loft Glamping & Camping is about 5 ½ hours drive from Newcastle in the North East of Scotland. The Loft is set in a beautiful location, surrounded by fields and woodlands just a 5 minute drive from the Moray coast.

Check in was so easy, there's a post box at reception with an envelope with your name on it, it contains a map, info on the onsite fairy trail and goat feeding and your key. We found our cabin quickly and were happy to see that parking was close to it.

Accommodation

There are different sized Wigwam cabins, some with wood fired hot tubs and lots of tent and campervan pitches at The Loft.

We stayed in a 5 person cabin with a hot tub. The location was stunning, we saw hares from our hot tub running across the golden fields.

In the evenings when the kids had gone to bed we sat by the fire pit with a glass of wine and couldn't believe how many stars we could see.

The Loft is in a dark skies area so on a clear night you can spot the constellations and this far North you can sometimes spot the Northern Lights too.

Our cabin had a seperate bedroom with a double and single bed, a toilet and shower and a kitchen/living area with a double sofa bed. Everything was immaculate.

You can either choose to bring your own bedding, towels and cooking utensils or add this onto your booking, the hot tub and fire pit are also optional extras.
We went for all the add-ons and it was great turning up and everything being there and ready. The beds were made beautifully with extra cushions and throws and the kitchen had everything we needed.

The hot tub fire is pre-lit, we checked in an hour later than planned so we had to relight it which was easily done using the firelighters and wood provided.

One tip (which is in the instructions which I didn't read till the end of our stay!) is to make layers of firewood with lighters in between and make sure it goes right back as the log burner is deeper than a normal one.

Once it heated up we all jumped in and the kids had great fun while the mums relaxed with a well-earned glass of prosecco and enjoyed the views.

Onsite facilities at The Loft

The first thing you see when you arrive at The Loft is the playground, which the kids loved.

They also have The Snack Shack which is a food truck that's open during the summer season, selling coffees, icecreams and breakfast baps.

The site itself has lots of clean shower, toilet and cooking blocks. Our cabin had its own shower and kitchen so we didn't need to use the shared facilities but we had a look around and they were great.

Fairy Trail

On our first night we had a lot of fun exploring the fairy trail at sunset. The map in our welcome pack gave us clues to find the fairies and the giants playground.

We hopped onto some hay bales en route, which took me right back to my childhood! It was fantastic sharing these experiences with my best friend, her mum who popped along to join us as she lives close by, and our kids.

As soon as we spotted the first fairy door the excitement began and there were surprises around every corner. The wishing tree with a rainbow painted on the trunk was amazing and the giants playground was a big hit too with tunnel slides and tyre swings.

Goat Feeding at The Loft

Every morning Victoria (the owner) feeds her goats and all residents are invited to join in if they want too (for free). We joined her at 10am next to 'Pooh Sticks Bridge' which was marked on our map.

The goats are so friendly and the kids (and adults!) Loved feeding them. The cashmere goat was especially popular, stroking it's soft coat was very therapeutic.

Things to do near The Loft

There are plenty of things to do near The Loft - here are a few that we like:

Findhorn Bay

The little village of Findhorn is a 5 minute drive away and it has beautiful sandy beaches. There are boat trips which you can take to the other side of the bay or you can go seal spotting - there's loads of them in the area.

You can also hire paddle boards and other equipment to have fun on the water with. http://www.findhornmarina.com/equipment-hire.htm

There's also a great ice cream parlour and pub joined onto the marina where we had a lovely meal on our last night overlooking the boats.

Findhorn Foundation - https://www.findhorn.org

Nearby Findhorn Foundation eco-village has a great shop and cafe and is really interesting to walk around and explore. There are a variety of eco homes including the famous whisky barrel houses and there's also an amazing concert venue next to the cafe called the Universal Hall.

Brodie Castle - Brodie Castle | National Trust for Scotland (nts.org.uk)

National Trust for Scotland owned pink fairytale castle with a loch to walk around and a lovely play area home to the biggest bunny sculpture in Scotland.

Brodie Countryfayre - Brodie Countryfare | Fashion, Homeware, Scottish Gifts & More

Upmarket countryside department store with farm shop and a great café with play area.

Forres - History in the Forres area | Forres Local

Pretty town with lots of cultural highlights including Suenos Stone and Nelson’s Tower. Forres has links to Macbeth too. Tescos and Aldi for shopping.

Inverness

If you want to go see the capital of the Highlands it's less than an hour's drive away. There's also Loch Ness if you fancy a bit of Nessy spotting….

The Loft Glamping and Camping Discount Code

We had an unforgettable time staying at The Loft, which I'm sure we will all remember forever. The facilities are great and our cabin was so comfortable and clean. Little extra touches like the fairy trail and goat feeding make it just that bit more special, and Victoria was already thinking about what she can add to the site for next year. You can tell that is a well loved and cared for site which the owner takes pride in and that really adds to the experience. We definitely plan on returning in future.  Book now: https://theloft.co.uk/ Discount codes / info:
