Angry Birds Adventure Golf Review at intu Metrocentre | Opening, Prices & Food

Angry Birds Adventure Golf has now opened at intu Metrocentre and is one of our top recommendations for what to do when it rains in North East England.

There are two courses - Bird Island and Pigtropolis. Both have 18 holes each. You can choose to play one course or both of them together.

Scroll to the bottom of this post to read about prices, offers and how to book.

You'll find Angry Birds Adventure Golf on Level Two of intu Metrocentre next to Buffet King and opposite Foot Locker. We parked in the Qube car park, took the escalator next to Odeon up to Level One and then turned right at the restaurants.

Angry Birds Adventure Golf is just at the end of the line of restaurants. Parking is FREE at intu Metrocentre and there are plenty of buses and trains which stop here too.

Angry Birds Adventure Golf is open from 10am-10/11pm daily. It's best to book online to avoid disappointment (especially during peak periods) but walk-ins are sometimes possible too.

Up to six people can play per hole at one time and group hire is also available (use this contact form to enquire about large groups).

On level one, you register for your game with the friendly staff and can grab a drink or bite to eat before your game. The venue is licensed too and Costa Coffee is available. Here's a look at the menu which we found to be good value and perfect for group dining:

We were served in super quick time and the pizzas were delicious and very good value. The kids were in their element eating pizzas and watching Angry Birds clips on the giant TV screen.

You need to look out for your name appearing on the screen when it's your turn to play or a member of staff will come and find you.

Your first job is to pick your clubs. There are lots of different sizes available and the staff will help you. I spotted some toddlers playing as part of a group - I'd say age 4+ is perfect but all ages can have a try. I'm sure grandparents will love the novelty of it too.

You also need to collect your own coloured ball and then you're good to go.

The first hole is on level one - once you've all managed to pot your ball, you hit the demolition button and watch a cool little video before taking the lift down to the ground floor where most of the action takes place.

As if by magic, your ball is already down there waiting for you. There are two courses to play - they're on either side of the room. We picked Pigtroplos as Heidi is a huge fan of pigs.

All of the following photos are from the Pigtroplis course which is only half of Angry Birds Adventure Golf - no doubt we'll be back to try the other half soon.

One thing which really stood out for me was just how good the theming was - it's very well done with lots of little details. Apparently, the whole set was hand-painted!

Fun fact - I bumped into Fashionista Pixie Tenenbaum who informed me that the space we were playing in used to be a storage unit for Primark.

Angry Birds Music plays in the background but it wasn't too overbearing.

There are 18 holes per course (36 in total) and we found them to be fun rather than challenging. We especially enjoyed having to climb aboard the Angry Birds truck.

I'm not an Angry Birds expert but the kids tell me the course is themed around the Angry Birds 2 movie and they recognised quite a few characters and scenes from the film.

I think this hole pictured below was the most challenging - trying to get the ball around the loop was a tough task but we all managed it (eventually).

There are friendly staff (or 'caddies') on hand to offer tips and assistance should you need it and there are loos and an additional bar area on the ground floor too. Our evening was pretty chilled with no waiting around or queues building up which was nice.

You can use a free Angry Birds Score Card to keep score if you like but we decided to just play for fun on this occasion.

Sibling fighting!

We spent around 45 minutes playing 18 holes. It honestly exceeded my expectations and I think it's the best Adventure Golf I've ever tried. It was lots of fun.

However..... I don't know if it's just my kids but Adventure Golf brings out the absolute worst in them. There were arguments over people cheating, over competitiveness,  blocking each others balls, taking additional shots but not counting them, moodiness over others not playing by the rules.......

Please tell me it's not just my kids who act like this when they play Adventure Golf! I asked if they had fun and it was a resounding yes and they asked to go back and play the other course ASAP but to anyone watching, I'm sure it looked like they were having a horrible time! LOL

Sibling fighting aside, I think Angry Birds Adventure Golf would make a brilliant birthday treat with friends (when I'm sure there'd be fewer disagreements).

Here's a little look at the Bird Island course......

Once your 18 holes are over you can grab a drink downstairs before trying the second course (depending on your booking) or head back up to level one to return your golf club and ball.

I thought that 18 holes might get a little boring but it wasn't boring at all. I think it was the perfect length for after school but I also think we'd be happy playing all 36 holes too (although this does make for a more expensive day out).

Up on Level One there's a pretty cool Angry Birds merch shop - they stock some fab stocking fillers, Angry Birds Toys, Angry Birds Advent Calendars and personalised bars of Dairy Milk which would make a fabulous prize for the winner.

At time of publishing (October 2019), Angry Birds Adventure Golf has a couple of promotional deals. The first deal is £26 for a family of 4 which for an hour's fun, I think is a fair price. This puts it on par with a trampoline park. Check out the family deal here.

Regular prices are as follows:

Group deals are available too:

The party deals look like fab value and the Red's Nest package looks like it will be completely hassle-free and is the one I'd go for.

  1. This would have been a perfect plan for yesterday when it was really wet! The theming looks fantastic and it's so good there's another indoor golf place to go to, especially one that looks so great for kids.
