There's a new trail heading to Hamsterley Forest this year and it features one of my all-time favourite TV stars, Shaun the Sheep. Nevermind the kids, I am personally SO excited for this!

Shaun the Sheep Farmageddon Glow Trail at Hamsterley Forest - Top Tips for Visiting

Before we jump in, here are some quick-fire FAQs:
  • The Shaun the Sheep Glow Trail opens at Hamsterley Forest on 8 October 2019
  • The trail is FREE to take part but it's best to buy an activity pack which features a UV pen for the clues
  • Hamsterley Forest postcode: DL13 3NL
  • Trail length = 2.5 miles, it is mostly pushchair friendly but there are two steep gradients and a narrow footbridge with steps on either side
  • You can buy the activity pack from the cafe for £3.50 during opening hours (generally 10am-5pm)
  • Download the app before you arrive as the signal isn't the best in the forest.
  • Parking is £2 for up to an hour, £6 all day or £10 on bank holidays. The forest uses number plate recognition and you can pay by card (or cash near the visitor centre) at one of the machines when you leave
  • There are plenty of picnic stops and play equipment along the way plus a cafe for refreshments. Make sure you visit the loos at the visitor centre / car park before setting off
  • Find out more about the trail here.

What is the Shaun the Sheep Farmageddon Glow Trail?

The Shaun the Sheep Glow Trail is a self-guided trail around Hamsterley Forest. An alien space ship has crashed into the forest and Shaun the Sheep is on a mission to help the alien inhabitant (named Lu-La).

Use the app to complete challenges and solve UV puzzles in the forest to help Lu-La out. At the end, you 'll unlock an augmented reality photo of Shaun and Lu-La as they appear before your eyes.

What is in the Glow Trail Activity Pack?

You can purchase a Farmageddon Glow Trail Pack from the Visitor Centre/Cafe during normal opening hours (generally 10am-5pm). The pack costs £3.50 and includes:

  • A UV pen for solving clues around the forest
  • Activity book
  • Shaun ears to wear
  • Stickers
  • Pencil
  • Clue sheet
£3.50 doesn't break the bank and I'd recommend buying one pack per child.

The Glow Trail App

The Glow Trail App is FREE to download from the Google Play or App Store. Download the app at home before you leave. The app features 8 puzzles to interact with, 8 physical challenges to complete and lots of special effects and fun as you move around the forest.
