Majorca - A Perfect Holiday Destination for Families

With a flight time of less than 3 hours, a huge range of activities available and temperatures averaging between 23-31 degrees celsius between May-October, Majorca ticks a lot of boxes for families looking for a summer getaway. It's a destination which definitely deserves including in my ultimate guide to visiting Spain with kids.

Majorca - A Perfect Holiday Destination for Families - Santa Ponsa Sunset

Majorca is such a varied island and home to some stunning scenery - staying in a villa and hiring a car is by far the best way to explore and see the best of what Majorca has to offer. You won’t want to miss the historic town of Soller. Full of charm and character, it’s one of those places that feels as if time has stood still. Catching the old tram down to Port-de-Soller is always lots of fun and you can treat yourself to the most delicious homemade ice creams.

Majorca - A Perfect Holiday Destination for Families - Marjorca Waterpark

For thrill-seeking families, Majorca is home to an abundance of water and theme parks and you’re never far from a fun-filled day out. You can zip through the jungle at Forestal Park and try a surf simulator at Wave House. Katmandu is a theme park filled with the unexpected and you won’t want to miss Jungle Parc where you can try aerial acrobatics in the jungle.

Majorca - A Perfect Holiday Destination for Families - Palma Beach

If beaches are more your scene, Majorca has something for everyone and features some of the best beaches in Spain. From secluded sandy coves off the beaten track, to bustling beaches filled with water sports and pebble beaches with rock pools - Majorca really does have it all. You’ll find shallow clear blue water at most of Majorca’s beaches with Cala Mondragó, Cala Agulla and Cala Millor being particularly suitable for younger children.

Majorca - A Perfect Holiday Destination for Families - Palma City from beach

The city of Palma is beautiful and always very welcoming towards families. The city is vibrant yet laid back all at the same time and home to typical Spanish squares, market stalls and both traditional and modern restaurants. Walking the city walls is a great way to get a feel for Palma and there are plenty of playgrounds dotted about should you need a break. Palma is also home to it’s own castle (Bellver Castle) and you’ll often find re-enactments and pop-up theatre within the grounds. If you need a respite from the sunshine, Palma Aquarium is home to over 25 marine environments, the largest collection of live coral in Europe, a shark vision boat, jellyfish zone and aquarium gardens. I’d expect to spend 2-3 hours here and it’s a lovely place to spend the afternoon for all ages.

Suitable for families of all ages, Majorca is one of the best spots in Europe for families to enjoy a break.

  1. Oooh I wish I was on that beach right now! I have such fond memories of Majorca, it's the first overseas holiday I went on as a child - love visiting the Spanish islands with my daughter, but haven't been back here with her yet. Plan for 2019 right there!

  2. Love Majorca we have had some great holidays there over the years! we stayed in Port de Pollensa last time and it was a little too quiet-I would prefer to be nearer Palma (which I loved!) next time.

  4. The last time I went to Majorca, I was an adult but completely unattached and child-free. I was blown away by the beauty of the island. I'd love to retunr some time, with the kids....
