Three great ideas for a little adventure

I always think it's mad how your children can grow up to be completely different. Harry, Heidi and Jack were created with the same genes and have been raised in exactly the same way yet their personalities are completely different. Harry is Mr Sensible, loves learning and is not a risk taker at all, Heidi is our adventurer and is constantly climbing and looking for the next challenge and then we have Jack who is just nuts and I don't think there are really any words to describe him - he is stubborn and definitely his own person.

One thing that does connect us is that we all like heading out for adventures together. Today I thought I would share three ideas for your next little adventure which can be enjoyed by the whole family.

Three great ideas for a little adventure

1 - Learn to skateboard

There are lots of skate parks around the UK and they are usually free to use. We have a fab one in Cramlington and another up the road in Whitley Bay. You don't need to spend a fortune on equipment and can buy what you need from online retailers such as the Skate Hut. If you've never considered skateboarding before (or stepped on a board yourself), I would recommend checking out this beginners guide which talks you through the basics. Skateboarding is a fantastic way to keep fit but more importantly, lots of fun and loads of laughs are guaranteed.

2 - Cycle through the woods

I still remember our first family bike ride through the woods like it was yesterday. We were staying at Center Parcs back in 2013 and had hired mountain bikes. Heidi had only just learned to ride without stabilisers the week before but there was no stopping her. I hadn't sat on a bike for around 8 years before this and it was a revelation. That feeling when the wind rushes through your hair as you cycle through trees is difficult to beat. If you don't own your own bike there are plenty of places you can hire them for a few hours (including the Cycle Hub on Newcastle Quayside or The Bike Place in Kielder. You can find your nearest forest cycle route here.

3 - Take part in a treasure hunt

We have tried this a few times now and it's a lovely way to get outdoors and explore parts of your local town that you might not know are there or discover a brand new city if you are visiting. We recommend buying a family treasure trail from Treasuretrails.co.uk and heading off an adventure solving clues together as a family. Check out the fun we had exploring Corbridge with a murder mystery treasure trail a few years ago.
