Our Review
The Bodyguard shares the story of Rachel Marron - a superstar singer who is on the path to win her first Oscar. We join Rachel as she performs a sold out gig when things take a sinister turn as a poison pen letter is found in her dressing room and one of her dresses has been stolen.
Her team recruit Frank Farmer to protect Rachel and her family - Frank is said to be the best in the business but of course, heads clash as his safety first approach clashes with the freedom Rachel is used to.
There are plenty of moments of suspense as Rachel's stalker comes within touching distance on several occasions. The clever staging and lighting really bring these scenes to life and you're on the edge of your seat whenever the stalker makes an appearance - it's thrilling stuff!
This is interwoven by a slightly cheesey love story / triangle between Rachel, her sister and Frank but along with the songs, it actually works.
My favourite performances of the night were 'Million Dollar Bill' which is performed as part of a gig set and feels super immersive, the intimate performance of 'Run to You' where you feel every word and of course the iconic 'I Will Always Love You' which gets me every time and yes, did have me crying.
On the evening of our performance, Rachel was played by Mireia Mambo and we did feel like she was holding back on the power in her voice in a few numbers (but also thought that this was maybe the point as when you're singing curled up on your sofa at home, it's not exactly the same as being on stage) but during the big numbers, she was fantastic and hit every note - not an easy feat I am sure.
Although there are plenty of tense and dramatic moments, there are some light hearted moments too. Loved Phoenix Beharry who played Rachel's son Fletcher - he was full of charm and charisma. There's also a fun karaoke scene and at the end the whole cast and audience get a chance to let loose and have a good dance which ends the show nicely.
The Bodyguard is not a show that drags on for ages - it's a fun and entertaining performance packed with hit after hit. A guaranteed good night out.

Booster cushions are available (please ask a member of staff), bag checks are in place. You cannot take hot food into the theatre. Selected performances do not allow any external food or drinks to be brought into the theatre (medical exemptions aside). The theatre is cashless. 💰Several discounts are available including £10 tickets for those aged 18-30 for selected performances, theatre membership and group bookings.
