Gosforth Civic Theatre is a lovely relaxed & accessible space with a child-friendly cafe. There's parking and public transport options available next door at Regent Centre.

(ad) What's On at the Discovery Museum this April


The Discovery Museum is a go-to day out for us when looking for somewhere free / low cost that's easy to get to by car or public transport. Conveniently located just along from Newcastle Central Station. It's an ideal place for an Easter meet up with friends (there's a nice cafe and indoor packed lunch space). Admission is free and there's a lovely play area for under 7s, interactive science maze and fantastic Steam to Green exhibition + more to explore (Newcastle Story is my all time favourite area - I love a wander through our city's history).
Across the holidays, the museum provides additional activities (best to book a space using the link provided). Here's a look at what's on over April:

(ad) Easter at Hexham Old Gaol 




Hexham Old Gaol reopens for the season on 1 April (closed Mondays & Tuesdays). It's FREE entry for under 18s and £6-£8 for an annual pass for adults (can be purchased on arrival). Pet dogs on leads welcome. 

The Gaol is fascinating and you can learn all about crime and punishment over the years with several interactive elements. You can get involved with some of the additional Easter activities too including a Hexham Hare Trail which runs through the Gaol and Spring Wildlife Bonnet Making - both included at no additional cost. 

The Old Gaol sits in the heart of the town and is very easy to combine with a trip to Tyne Green Park, Hexham Abbey, the Forum Cinema, bowling at the Leisure Centre, Queen's Hall Art Centre and there's a huge car boot sale at the Auction Mart on a Sunday.

A perfect first-theatre outing for little ones, Northern Stage is a lovely relaxed theatre with a kids menu, friendly staff, baby change facilities, step free access and buggy parking.

(ad) Treasure : Hidden, Lost, Found at Great North Museum 



A brand new FREE exhibition opens at Great North Museum on 28 March. No tickets are required and it's free to drop in and explore during normal opening hours (ends 20 Sept). 

This exhibition brings together some of the most fascinationg archaeological finds from the North of England across various time periods. Visitors can view real Roman coins alongside a secret stash of Tudor coins and Viking era silver. 

Alongside this new exhibition you'll find a full programme of free activities at the museum this Easter including Time Quest, theatre on the lawn, engraving workshops and more (and it's all free!).

(ad) What's On at Beamish Museum this April



April is the perfect time to make use of your Beamish Unlimited Pass (or a good time to purchase one and enjoy a full year of fun). Here are some dates for your diary: 

  • 3 April - 19 April : Easter Celebrations at Beamish. Discover how Easter was celebrated in the 1820s, early 1900s, 1940s and 1950s with a whole host of activities to get involved with. 

  • 11 & 12 April : Meccano Exhibition in the 1950s Welfare Hall. Pop down and enjoy some marvellous Meccano creations - some dating as far back as the early 1900s. 

  • 19 April : Sunderland & District Classic Vehicle Society Show. Visitors can enjoy an impressive display of classic vehicles on the events fields today. 

  • 25 & 26 April : Horses in Harness Weekend. A highlight of the Beamish calendar and a must for those who love horses.
