5 free outdoor family activities to try this Spring

Discover a local landmark

Spring is the perfect time to be a tourist in your own city and visit your local landmarks. Penshaw monument, The Angel of the North, Northumberlandia and The Alnwick Treehouse are all fun and free places in the North East you can discover.

Skim stones at the beach

The beach provides hours of free fun for young and old alike. One of our favourite things to do when we need some screen-free time is to head to the beach to collect pebbles and stones to then throw in the Sea (or skim on the surface if you are clever like daddy). Just make sure you have some children's wellies with you as they usually can't resist the urge to paddle!

Rockpooling

Spring is a good time to go out and explore your local rock pools (check out this list of great rock pools if you need inspiration).  All you need is a bucket from home. You can download some fabulous resources to take with you for free here - we love the rockpool life spotters form.

The Park

It's an oldie but a goody! Parks are often neglected during the Winter months when it is often too cold and miserable to even think about venturing outside. Sunny Spring days are the perfect time to re-discover your local play areas. If you live in the North East, I would recommend you follow Babyfoote as they visit and review every single play park in North Tyneside this year.

Den building

Den building is one of the first outdoor activities we enjoyed this year during a trip to Wallington Hall last month. Local woods are also the perfect spot to allow children to stretch their imaginations, enjoy some fresh air and build a den together.

I would love to hear your ideas for enjoying the great outdoors this Spring.
