A New FREE Roman AR Trail in Wallsend

This is an advert for October 2022. Any shares / edits beyond this date have not been asked or paid for. Please always check with the App developers for the most up to date information.

The Roaming Romans trail is organised by North Tyneside Council and supported by North of Tyne Combined Authority.

The North Tyneside town of Wallsend obviously has strong links to Roman times. Segedunum is the easternmost part of Hadrian's Wall and is the most thoroughly excavated fort along the wall which makes the town the perfect location for a new Roman-themed augmented reality trail.

10 Places to Visit with Dogs & Kids in Ryedale (North Yorkshire)

Ad - This post has not been paid for but does feature a mix of places we have visited and paid for ourselves and others we have visited in the past as part of a press trip.

Where is Ryedale? Ryedale is a district in North Yorkshire in the Vale of Pickering (see map below). It's very easy to get to from North East England (a 1-2 hour drive depending on where you are leaving from) and the perfect destination for a short break with kids and a dog.

I have visited many times over the years and thought I would share some of the best places in the area that you can visit and enjoy with both kids and dogs.

The Fat Mermaid - Amble

Advertisement for October 2022.  This post has been published by Steve.

This bistro in Amble is cosy with a real Autumnal vibe. We visited on a crisp October evening, were welcomed as soon as we arrived and shown to our table. We were advised of the specials board before ordering our drinks and being left to peruse the menu.

Gosforth Nature Reserve

Thanks so much to our new writer Alyssa for this post and photos, based on a visit in October 2022. Please check with venue direct for the most up to date info. Over to Alyssa:

A few weeks ago, I went on a bicycle ride between where I live in Longbenton and Weetslade Country Park; on the way we passed Gosforth Country Park, I was pleasantly surprised by how close it actually was.

When you think nature reserve you think, of the countryside – away from the industrial revolution fuelled city – but it is literally on its doorstep. It's quite hard to comprehend we live practically next door to 61 hectares of woodlands and wetlands, home to 1600 recorded species.

Bad Cat Cafe Wallsend

Thanks to our writer Jennifer for this post.

We recently visited the Bad Cat Cafe; a novel take on the traditional cat cafe model. Here you can still expect to get your paws on a cuppa whilst mingling with some adorable moggies, however, unlike similar venues the Bad Cat residents are all rescues who will not stay at the cafe long term.

Christmas Cookies For Santa - Easy Recipe

We love making these soft style cookies and have adapted the BBC Good Food recipe we usually use to give them a Christmas twist. They taste just like Millies Cookies and are brilliant for lunchboxes, with a nice glass of milk during a Christmas film or even to give as a thoughtful Christmas gift.

Personally, I think they are ideal for leaving out for Santa on Christmas Eve. They taste so good and Santa will definitely appeciate them. The recipe is easy enough for kids to get involved with too.

This recipe makes 17 - 20 cookies.
