Lunch & A Leg Stretch in Whitby

🐶 Dog & Child Friendly

This is not a full day out idea (you can easily extend it to a full day out) but rather somewhere to stop when driving to / from Yorkshire for a nice lunch, toilet stop and leg stretch.

🚗 Park at Abbey Headland Car Park (YO22 4JT). There are over 400 spaces & it’s £4.90 for 2 hours. Fairly expensive but you can always get a spot here and you’re literally next door to the Abbey & Brewery so perfect for a short stop

🍻 Head back to the road you accessed the car park with and turn left (walking towards Whitby) and you will see Whitby Brewery around a minute or so along the path. It does not take reservations. There are tables outside and indoors - children and dogs welcome

🍺 The brewery create their own beer on site and it’s their mission to bring back local, craft brewing the Whitby. They offer a range of craft ales & lagers as well as ciders, wine and a decent selection of soft drinks (including blackcurrant juice for 50p)

🍕Pizzas are served daily from 1pm-7pm. There’s a small menu with around 6 different varieties. Expect to pay £11-£13 per pizza. They are hand stretched and stone baked in a huge Italian pizza oven - you can watch them do this inside the bar. Order pizzas and drinks at the bar.

☕ Sometimes the brewery does get busy, if you can’t find a table, I recommend the cafe at YHA Whitby across the road. It’s dog friendly with lots of seating inside and out with lovely views across the River Esk & Whitby. They serve pizzas, main meals, light bites & kids meals & are licensed too.

👣 Afterwards, stretch your legs with a walk around Whitby Abbey (free for EH members / admission applies). I highly recommend borrowing an audio guide and taking part in the kids trail if there is one running. The views are stunning & it’s an interesting spot. Dog friendly.

🚻 Customer toilets available at YHA, Whitby Brewery & inside the welcome building/gift shop at Whitby Abbey. Paid toilets (50p) available in the car park close to the rear entrance of the Abbey.
