20+ Things to look forward to in January

January is generally a month not many people look forward to, even more so during a pandemic But fear not, I have scoured the internet and have found a few things to look forward to and that will hopefully get us through the month.

20+ Things to look forward to in January

1 January - The Start of a New Year

The 1st of January is always a nice time to reflect back on the previous year, set goals for the ahead and look forward to a fresh start.

The Snowman and the Snowdog Trail continues until the end of January. It is FREE with no pre-booking required (please stick with current Government guidelines) - find out more here

1 January - A New Episode of Doctor Who airs on BBC which is a HUGE event in our house. Plus new drama series The Serpent begins tonight.

2 January - Casualty FINALLY returns to our screens & a new series of The Voice starts. I have really missed Casualty, I have watched it since I was a little girl and I cannot wait for it to return.

1 -31 January - Veganuary is a good excuse to try something new. Check out some recipes and ideas or find out more about signing up here.

3 January - Festival of Sleep Day . We need no excuse to join in with this one.

4 January - There's a new 2 part special of 24 Hours in Police Custody. I love this show and it always has me gripped! This special focuses on a murder plot featuring an ex-wife.

5 January - The Virtual Victoria Tunnel Experience - book here. We had to cancel out Victoria Tunnel Tour earlier this year and this is a nice alternative and well-priced too.

From 6 January - Big Schools Birdwatch. Part of the Big Bird Watch, hopefully your children will be coming hope from school full of facts.

6 January - A new series of Grand Designs begins on on C4. Also love this show!

11 - 17 January - National Houseplant Week. We only have cactuses in our house at the moment but this is a good chance to maybe consider something new. I recommend following House of Botanics for lots of ideas and tips.

13 January - Wonder Woman 1984 is available to stream
in the UK from today (via premium on-demand outlets). I feel like we have been waiting forever to watch this. I am so excited and will be rolling out our red carpet for the occasion.

18 January - National Winnie the Pooh Day. This day commemorates A.A Milne's birthday and is the perfect excuse to snuggle up, read your favourite Winnie the Pooh tale and enjoy some honey.

18 January - Brew Monday. A much better alternative to Blue Monday, Brew Monday is a Samaritans initiative and encourages us to stay connected with others over a brew, even if this has to be done virtually. Why not arrange a coffee and a catch up with someone today? Find out more here.

21 January - Squirrel Appreciation Day. We love spotting squirrels! Some of the best places to spot them in the North East include Saltwell Park in Gateshead, South Park in Darlington and near East Cramlington Nature Reserve where they have built two squirrel runs over the road. If you are unable to visit somewhere yourself, check out this post which shares lots of squirrel facts and activities you can enjoy at home.

21 January - National Hug Day. Hugs may be in short supply at the moment but hopefully today we can all make the effort to hug somebody in our household or support bubble. Hugging is known to reduce stress and it's harmful effects. Hopefully not too much longer until we can all start hugging freely again.

24 January - The Virtual Victoria Tunnel Experience book here

25 January - Burns Night. We will be celebrating - I will be sharing a post soon with a few ideas for making the most of Burns Night at home.

29 - 31 January - RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch - find out more here. I have signed up and we will be taking part in the UK's largest birdwatch survey this year.

From 30 January - National Storytelling Week.
A lovely week to share some of your favourite stories. Keep an eye on Seven Stories as I am sure they will have a few ideas and virtual events planned.

  1. Ohh! I had forgotten all about Casualty. I do love that show and I've watched it since I was little too. I didn't know 24 Hours in Police Custody was back. I have just set the reminder on my TV. There really is so much to look forward to in January x
