What's on in the North East for children & families | 1st & 2nd October

Hello October! I actually love this month as we have a half term (yeah) and Halloween to look forward to as well as all the pretty autumnal colours to enjoy when I'm out and about. We're going to be searching for Snowdogs this weekend with Tyne & Wear Metro. If you haven't already, please check out their £10 family deal (you all get your own Snowdog wristband too).  The bands are valid for up to 2 adults and 3 children on all Metros, local trains & the Shields ferry so if you know of any Snowdogs I can access this way, please let me know.

If you're saving Snowdog hunting for another day, here are 5 other suggestions for days out in the North East this weekend:-

Children's Spookfest at Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve
Sunday 2nd October | 10am - 4pm

Get into the spirit of October with a Spookfest at Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve. Entry is FREE and there will be Halloween mask making, Halloween face painting, pumpkin carving, craft activities and spooky games. Fancy dress is optional. It all takes place in the visitor's centre (downstairs room) and the 'spooky' adventure playground.

Early bird opening for children with an autistic spectrum condition  | Seven Stories
Saturday 1st October | 9am-10am

Seven Stories open their doors extra early on the first Saturday of every month and welcome children with an autistic spectrum condition. An earlier opening ensures the building is quieter and there is a relaxed storytime in the attic at 10am. Normal admission applies.

Harvest Festival |  Beamish Museum
Saturday 1st & Sunday 2nd October

Beamish are celebrating their harvest in this annual festival. There will be stunning displays in the Pit village chapel and harvest displays at Pockerley Old Hall and the farm. Don't miss the choir performances in the Pit Village Chapel at 12noon and 2pm on both days.

Red Squirrel Week | Wallington Hall
Saturday 1st & Sunday 2nd October | 11am - 3pm

Join the Wallington Hall rangers on a special squirrel spotting walk and then head to West Wood to take part in special squirrel-themed crafts. Free event (normal admission applies).

The Little Mermaid | Tyneside Cinema
Saturday 1st October | 10:30am

There will be a special screening of The Little Mermaid this Saturday as part of the Fantastical Disney Season at Tyneside Cinema. All tickets are only £4 and children will receive a free lollipop and everyone will be entered into a raffle where you can win a fantastic prize before the film starts.

Let me know what you're up to this weekend. If you're a bit of a planner like I am, grab your diary and start planning October Half Term with our Guide to the Juice Festival and 36 ideas for Halloween in the North East.

  1. My girls would love to watch The Little Mermaid in cinema. A great list of things to do here

  2. I haven't been to Beamish in years, would absolutely love to go back! I always love it when there are events hosted there!
