What's on in the North East - Summer Holiday Special | 29th July - 4th August 2017


Today I am bringing you our second instalment of our Guide to the Summer Holidays. This week's guide will cover from 29th July - 4th August.  You can check out last week's guide here.



Ater our adventure around Swansea Bay we are planning a quieter week this week. We are planning on spending some time exploring the Gateshead area on Steve's days off and for the rest of the week will just be enjoying some down time at home. 28th - 30th July | Story of Lindisfarne | Lindisfarne Priory

Join Time Will Tell Theatre for a family friendly immersive storytelling session in the priory. Included with English Heritage admission. Remember to check tide times.

29th July | Chalk presents Prince Party | Gosforth Civic Theatre

Celebrate the music of pop superstar Prince in this special event dedicated to the performer. Strut your stuff to Prince classics, craft a Prince inspired collar and design your very own symbol.

29th July | Sing along Grease - Parent & Baby Screening | Gosforth Civic Theatre

This is a fab opportunity to enjoy what has to be one of the best films of all time with other parents. Aimed at babies under 18 months and their parents/carers.


29th July | Family Fun Day | Gosforth Central Park | FREE event

There's a free family fun day in Gosforth this afternoon. Expect a bouncy castle, climbing wall, face painting, stalls and entertainment. Entry is free.


29th July | Street Circus | Trinity Square | FREE event

There will be a FREE pop-up circus in Trinity Square Gateshead between 11:30an-3pm today.
29th July | Outdoor Theatre - Peter Pan | Warkworth Castle

Join Chapterhouse Theatre Company as they perform Peter Pan in the grounds of Warkworth Castle.

30th July | Milkshake Live | Sage Gateshead

The stars of Milkshake will be heading to the Sage today. From Noddy to Fireman Sam, Shimmer and Shine and Bob the Builder - lots of fun for little ones will be guaranteed.

30th July | Wild Parks - Explore the Rocky Shore | St Mary's Lighthouse | FREE event

St Mary's Lighthouse and RSPB Saltholme for this special drop-in and FREE event where you can ramble through rockpools, take part in scavenger hunts and more.

30th July | Teesmade Festival | Preston Park

This festival celebrated heritage skills and crafts. There will be local stalls and demos throughout the day including pottery, quilting and foraging.

1st - 3rd August | Beneath Our Feet Week | Great North Museum | FREE event

Join the Great North Museum for a few days of creepy crawly handling, volcano exploring and more.

1st August | Crafty Animation | Pelaw Library

Work with a local artist to create your own crazy characters and then bring them to life. Add music, effects and create your very own animated film.


1st August | ARTventurers | Q Festival

There will be lots of arts and craft fun in the Spiegeltent down on the Quayside today. Expect crafting, modelling, painting, mask making, creative play, dancing and more....

2nd August | Wheels on the Bus Rhyme & Storytime | Preston Park | FREE event

A mobile library will be parked in the museum grounds from 9:15am for a 45 minute storytelling and rhyming session. Free and drop-in event.

2nd August | Giants Garden Water & Play | Rising Sun Country Park

Head to the Giant's Garden and take part in an inspiring and creative play activity. It's an unstructured session where you can build dens and bridges.

2nd August | Kids Clay Workshop | Killhope Mining Museum

Use clay to create your very own animals to take home and remind you of your day at Killhope.

2nd August | Make a Stick Creature | Cherryburn

Hunt for sticks around Cherryburn and then use the materials provided to create your very own Stick Man or Lady. Included with National Trust admission.

2nd August | Make a bee box | Cragside

Help look after the bee population and create your very own bee box to take home. Included with regular National Trust admission.


3rd August | Toddle to the Spiegel with Gateshead Libraries | Q Festival (Baltic Square)

Gateshead Libraries will be hosting two special rhyme times in the Spiegeltent today. Expect rhymes, singing, action and play.

3rd August | Create a Plate | Wallington Hall

Use inspiration from the hall to design your own pattern on a paper plate. Included with regular National Trust admission.

3rd August | Wild Parks - Feathered Friend Fun | Pets Corner Jesmond Dene | FREE event

Drop into this FREE event and join in with various activities including nature spotting, bird spotting and feather finding.

4th August | Family Fun Fridays | Durham Cathedral

Durham Cathedral are hosting craft activities based around the Magna Carta and the Forest Charters exhibition as part of Open Treasure. Crafts are included with Open Treasure admission.

4th August | Get Active Family Day | Richardson Dees Park | FREE event

Head to Richardson Dees Park in Wallsend between 11am - 2pm for their FREE Get Active Family Fun Day. Expect challenges, inflatables, family games, family fitness, giant games and a smoothie bike.
