What's On in the North East for Families & Children | 10th & 11th September

Yeah for the weekend. We have settled nicely back into the routine of school and are looking forward to a nice relaxing weekend with a BBQ at my brother's house. There's lots going on in the North East this weekend - good luck to all those running the Great North Run on Sunday. Here are our top 5 events in the region:-

Northumbria Food & Drink Festival
Vallum Farm

Expect lots of local food and drink, live music, demos from local chefs and lots of family fun from clay pigeon shooting & face painting to bouncy castles and tractor rides. North East favourites Zapatista, the Fat Hippo, La Petit Creperie, Ouseburn Coffee, The Brownie Bar and Northumberland Cheese will join 30+ traders. Organised by Appetite Magazine. See here for more information.

Great North Run
Across the North East
Sunday 11th September

57,000 runners are set to take part in this year's Great North Run on Sunday (now in it's 36th year). The atmosphere is always fantastic as crowds line the streets to show their support. There are lots of places you can watch the runners but I would recommend the Tyne Bridge (where you might see the Red Arrows fly overhead), the Felling Bypass, the finish line at South Shields or why not head up to the top of Newcastle Castle Keep for perhaps the very best view. Saffron Bakery will be running a pop-up pastry shop to keep you fed and watered.

Leek Show
Beamish Museum
Saturday 10th September - Sunday 11th September

If you fancy something a bit different, this annual contest will see members of the public battle it out with their home-grown vegetables and flowers for that coveted first prize. Head down to the Pit Village to check out all the action. See here for more information.

Classic Car Show
Belsay Hall, Castle & Gardens
11am - 5pm

A fantastic range of classic cars will be on display across Belsay's wonderful estate. Classics ranging from 1920s - 1970s will delight children and grown ups alike. See here for more information.
