What's on for children & families in the North East | 27th & 28th August

It's bank holiday weekend! YEAH! I feel sorry for Big Stevie Cool who is unfortunately working all weekend, so sorry to all the shift workers out there for this post - I feel your pain! There is, as you would expect, lots happening in the North East. I am very lucky and have been invited along to the Commissioners Quay in Blyth to watch the Tall Ships Regatta from one of their suites as their guest. I'm going to try and live stream the fireworks from Facebook at around 9pm on Saturday so if you can't make the event yourself, make sure you tune in.

A Knight's Tournament at Belsay

Tall Ships Blyth Regatta
Blyth Quayside
Friday 26th - Monday 29th August | 10am - 10pm (5pm on Monday)

Blyth Quayside will be transformed this weekend as they welcome the tall ships to their docks during this FREE festival. There will be fairground rides, street theatre, live music, stalls, face painting, the chance to climb aboard a tall ship, circus acts, fireworks and so much more. See website for further information and transport details.

Knight's Tournament
Belsay Hall & Castle, Northumberland
Saturday 27th - Monday 29th August | 11am - 5pm

We visited the Knight's Tournament at Belsay Hall last year and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. There will be a Medieval encampment in the castle grounds, the chance to feel the weight of real armour, cooking and skill demonstrations alongside battle re-enactments. See website for ticket information.

Meet Titan the Robot
Discovery Museum, Newcastle
Saturday 27th August | 12noon & 2pm

If you haven't seen Titan perform before, you are missing a treat. He's curious, funny and unpredictable and will certainly have you on the edge of your seat. FREE entry (donations welcome). See website for details.

Chris Cross's Castle Escape
Newcastle Castle
Sunday 28th August | 12 noon

Spectators will be wowed as Chris Cross imitates the world's greatest escapologist by attempting to escape from a straight jacket whilst hanging 80 ft in the air from the castle keep in just 90 seconds! Standard admission fee applies and spectators are encouraged to view from street level. See website for further details.

Moscow State Circus
Newcastle Town Moor
24th - 30th August (various times)

The world's most famous circus is in town! Expect high wire tricks, dare devils, springboard troops and much more in the air-conditioned big top on the moor. See website for more information and tickets.
