A few weeks ago we found ourselves child-free and decided to head to one of our local pub's for a bit to eat. The Three Horse Shoes is just off the Spine Road (A189) between Cramlington and Blyth. (NE24 4HF). It's a pub we visit a lot and my mum actually had her wedding breakfast here. They serve home cooked foods at very reasonable prices, are known for their selection of beers and regular beer festivals and have a lovely beer garden plus play area for kids which is fab in the summer.
The interior of the pub is very traditional in style and what I like is that they always have a nice selection of specials on offer - nothing worse than your local featuring the same old boring meals week in week out.
I ordered the Surf and Turf from the Specials board which was described as a 10oz Ribeye steak served with sweet chilli prawns and sweet potato fries. A bargain at £13.95 I thought.
The portion was huge and my medium steak was perfectly cooked.
Hubby went for the Steak Pie with homemade chunky chips - the steak is slow cooked and is also served with a large side dish of vegetables. You can replace the chips with another type of potato but I think you'd be mad to do this!
The dessert board always looks very tempting and we almost ordered a slice of Creme Egg Gateaux however we knew we had lots of Easter Eggs waiting for us at home so resisted this time.
Our total bill was £28 including a large glass of wine and a pint of Ale. Service was prompt, friendly and with a smile :-)
Children's meals are priced at £4.50 each and include a smaller portion of their steak pie, Spaghetti Bolognese, Fish Cakes, Pasta and Meatballs, Bangers and Mash, Homemade Burger, Roast Chicken Dinner and Chicken Nuggets. Perfect for an after school or weekend treat, especially if the weather is nice and they can play outside.
