Whatever the reason for your date night, whether it be a first date with someone you've met online or someone you've been married to for 30 years, it's always nice to make the effort and I thought I would share my top 5 ideas.
Book a table at an Italian Restaurant
Even the fussiest of eaters will find something they like at an Italian restaurant. The mood is usually cosy and sets the scene for romance. If it is a first date, maybe avoid spaghetti which has a tendency to be a little messy and go easy on the garlic too. In Newcastle we love Gusto and Caffe Vivo on the Quayside.

Cook dinner at home
If you are the next Nigella or Jamie Oliver, nothing can impress quite like a home-cooked meal. Make sure you select the perfect romantic recipe, light a few candles and make the effort to set the table with fresh flowers and chilled wine. If you aren't feeling brave enough, you could even hire your own private chef who will take care of all the details whilst you enjoy your date.

Catch a film at the cinema
If you're feeling nervous, a cinema date is always a good choice. There is no need for any awkward small talk and the plot should give you something to talk about afterwards.
Go for a walk
Sometimes it's nice to get to know someone or simply spend time with a loved one in the great outdoors. There is no pressure to this sort of date and you could end up walking for hours if you are really getting on and you can just as easily make your excuses after 30 minutes if you aren't feeling it!
Drinks in a bar
Call me old-fashioned but I still think a few cocktails in a nice bar really makes for the perfect date. The botanist in Newcastle is one of our favourite spots or you could try Malmaison, Bonbar or Lola Jeans.
