Why you should choose an apartment over a hotel in London

We were in London last weekend for the MAD blog awards and I got chatting with a few fellow bloggers about the most budget-friendly way to stay in London. Most of us agreed that short term lets in London offered the best value for money. London holiday apartments can offer much more than a hotel room with cooking facilities, washing machines, private bathrooms, living areas and often more than one bedroom being offered as standard.

If you are lucky, your short stay apartments in London might even offer some sought after private green space - perfect for relaxing after a busy day exploring the city.

We actually stayed in a London apartment a few years ago and loved how we had a fridge (so we could buy food from the Borough Market), tv and sofa plus dining area to use for breakfast - very convenient for us as a family.

Our top 5 reasons for choosing an apartment over a hotel in London

1 - Apartments are more suitable for short term stays and holidays in London when you may need a washing machine, sofa and space to spread out.

2 - With a private kitchen, self catering is an option meaning you will save money on eating out.

3 - Apartments offer a home-from-home environment.

4 - Apartments are usually more affordable than hotel rooms.

5 - Apartments can generally sleep up to 4 people meaning that you can split the cost between friends and save even more money.

What do you think? Have you used a London apartment to explore the city?

  1. I've never actually considered staying in an apartment but it does make sense especially if you are visiting with children.

  3. We recently stayed in an apratment on a short city break and we wil never go back to a hotel room. For comparable costs we could spread out, prep food we knew our son would eat and then put him to bed and relax in the evening. Brilliant x

  4. Now that airbnb exists I guess a lot of people will use that for short term stays too. I didn't know this kind of scheme existed- thanks for the heads up!

  5. I did win a stay in a London apartment once. It was lovely to have the space although I did miss the bar and restaurant you often have in hotels.

  12. I have a similar post where I wrote about self catering cottages. I find this type of accommodation so much better than hotel or B&B. I'll have a look on the website.
