Local 2 for 1 days out with npower - Ocean Beach South Shields

We are almost half way through the Summer holidays and I think we should all take a moment to congratulate ourselves for getting this far. I really do love the Summer holidays however there is no getting away from the fact that it can be stressful trying to keep the children entertained without spending too much money. There are only so many times you can make a bike ride to the local park sound exciting and at week three my children have already mentioned the dreaded 'I'm bored' on numerous occasions. Luckily, npower have recognised these struggles and are providing their customers with 2 for 1 entry to over 900 attractions this Summer.

2 for 1 entry to Ocean Beach Pleasure Park, South Shields

We decided to use our 2 for 1 voucher to visit Ocean Beach Pleasure Park in South Shields. A fairground is a real treat for our children so I knew they would really enjoy it here. With our 2 for 1 voucher we were able to buy £20 worth of tickets for only £10. Bargain! Parking is only £3 for all day and right on the Sea front. We made a whole day of our trip to South Shields and enjoyed time on the beach when we needed a break from the rides.

The rides

I like how all rides at Ocean Beach are paid for in tickets so you don't need to worry about carrying money around or having the right change. We split our tickets into 3 equal amounts so it was easy to see how many tickets our children had left. All of the smaller rides we went on required 3 or 4 tickets each which worked out to be good value.

It was soon time to stop for lunch. There are lots of food and drink offers available at Ocean Beach including £3.50 meal deals. However as we were by the seaside we opted for traditional fish and chips from The Blue Marlin restaurant which you can access via Ocean Beach. I was really impressed with the prices - the five of us enjoyed a meal and a drink for only £25 which was a real bargain.

There was no rest though, as soon as our plates were clean it was straight back outside to enjoy fun on the various trampolines and bouncy castles (3 tickets each). I love the sheer joy on my children's faces in some of these photographs. Heidi managed her first 'flip' on a trampoline and was beaming from ear to ear.

Although our children could go on the smaller rides without an adult, we didn't want to miss out on all of the fun and we had a great time as we all went on the dodgems together. It was clearly a day of firsts as our children braved the ghost train for the first time too (and thankfully loved it).

What I liked about Ocean Beach is that there were plenty of kiosks to grab a coffee and lots of chairs and tables dotted about - the perfect remedy for me as I recovered from the dodgems and it was nice to grab a seat and relax for a bit whilst the children played in Jungle Madness.

As our tickets provided double the value they seemed to last forever. We had time to try a few more rides before stopping for ice cream at Layla's ice cream and heading to the beach. There were lots of flavours to choose from and we enjoyed a wide selection between us ranging from amaretto (that would be mine) to mint choc chip and even a 'Frozen special' for Heidi.

I really appreciate how a company like npower are standing up for parents this Summer and giving us a little bit back. To be honest I will take anything that will make our Summer as stress free as possible. Our day was such good fun for everyone and easy on the purse strings too. If you are an npower customer, don't forget to check out their website for details of how to claim your 2 for 1 vouchers.

  1. You look like you had a fab day, Heidi chose my favourite Layla's flavour! I love a day at the beach but it can all add up financially especially when you are paying for 5!
