10 things to do at Butlins Skegness when it's raining

We recently enjoyed a lovely term time weekend break at Butlin's and were blessed with lovely sunny weather for most of our stay. We did however experience a rainy afternoon which has inspired today's post. 10 things to do at Butlin's Skegness when it's raining.

1 - Go swimming

For obvious reasons I haven't taken a photograph of the swimming pool but I will say it's fantastic - in fact it is on par with the swimming pool at Center Parcs I would say. There are lots of loungers for you to relax on, a secret island, a toddler splash pool with water features, mini flumes for toddlers/pre-schoolers as well as more exciting flumes for older children, teens and grown ups, a lazy river, a cave to explore, bubble pool.......I could go on. I was really impressed with how vigilant the life guards were and there were plenty of lockers/changing areas. We loved the 'disco' showers at the end too. Swimming is included in the cost of your break and you can go as often as you would like.

2 - Catch a live show

We managed to squeeze A LOT of live shows in during our term time weekend break including Scooby doo, Cirque du Hilarious, Aladdin Rocks, Little Mix tribute, The Skyline Gang and a live animal encounters show. All shows are included in the cost of your break and are usually repeated once during your stay. Our children adore The Skyline Gang so this was a real highlight for us (I might be a little bit in love with rainbow the dog) and we found Cirque Du Hilarious well hilarious! Salute who were the Little Mix tribute band were also absolutely fantastic and were my favourite act to watch in the evening. There are also discos and party dances throughout the day/night too.

A quick word about drinks prices - 2 x pints of Carling and 3 x medium slush drinks only cost us £10.90 which I think is a real bargain.

3 - Go to the cinema

Butlin's Skegness actually has it's own cinema in the Skyline Pavillion. There are various up to date films available and the prices are extremely reasonable. We booked to see the new Minions movie at the cost of only £4.50 per person using their family ticket deal which was a bargain!

4 - Play in softplay

I honestly can't stand soft play but the kids enjoy it and it is a free indoor activity if the weather isn't too good. The softplay at Butlin's Skegness wasn't too busy during our visit and there were different areas for babies, toddlers and older children. I would like to see a coffee machine though to make it a little more bearable for grown ups! haha.

5 - Enjoy some arts and crafts

If you check your 'what's on' guide on arrival there are various craft sessions running throughout your break - most are free too. We have enjoyed the under 5's messy play sessions on previous breaks. It's always a plus when you don't have to worry about the tidying up/getting paint everywhere!

6 - Play on the amusements

There are A LOT of amusements to tempt your children to spend their pennies at Butlin's. Luckily, there was so much going on that my three didn't ask for money to spend on them at all! We did spend our last night in the Pavillion though and my mum let the kids have £5 each to spend which they loved. There are lots of games and rides to choose from and if your children are really keen they can collect tickets throughout their break to exchange for a prize at the end.

7 - Go bowling

Butlin's Skegness has it's own sports bar and bowling alley. We found the prices very reasonable - there were special offers too including kids bowl free before 12 noon.

8 - Take part in a dance class

Taking part in Angelina Ballerina's dance class is a little bit of a Butlin's tradition for Heidi. It is free and during our break was on every morning in the Pavillion from 9am-9:30am. The perfect way to start the day before breakfast in The Yacht Club.

9 - Go shopping

There are also lots of shops about to tempt your little ones to part with their spending money. I loved the 'secret entrance' just for kids in the sweet store. There is a sweet shop, face paining/temp tattoo/hair braiding shop. toy shop, build your own bear shop and a Butlin's gift shop in the Skyline Pavillion. Prices were a little more expensive then you would perhaps pay at home (Jack's large rainbow soft toy was £24.99) but not completely OTT (another example is a Minecraft toy set for £9.99 or troll doll fro £6.99).

10 - Enjoy the Puppet Castle

The Puppet Castle in the Skyline Pavillion has various shows on throughout your break. If you time it well the grown ups can find a seat in the adjacent jellyfish bar and enjoy a drink whilst the children sit on the carpet (we loved the non-alcoholic cocktails £2.95). The shows are a real hit with children who get involved shouting and cheering along.
