A Coastal Walk with Fish n Chips

It seems like we have been cooped up inside generally eating, drinking and being merry forever now and some fresh air was long overdue. The children received new scooters for Christmas and were dying to try them out so decided to wrap up and head to the coast with our family dog this morning.

My favourite walk with the kids when they have their bikes or scooters is along the seafront from Whitley Bay, past the Rendezvous cafe and towards St Marys Lighthouse. The path is smooth and wide for the children to ride on. There are plenty of places to stop for a sit down (or to tie shoelaces) and you can grab a coffee from Links Art Gallery or Rendezvous Cafe. Our family Springer Spaniel loves that he can walk along on the sand beside us too.

There were plenty of families and dog walkers along the coast today and it was lovely to bump into an old friend as we scooted along. We were out for about 40 minutes before everyone started moaning they were too cold so headed back to the car.

I love this walk and every time we do it I say we should make an effort and do it more often.

After our walk we headed to one of our favourite local pubs - The Hastings Arms where we all ordered fish n chips (or cod bites and chips) to warm us up. You can use your tastecard if you pre-book and the prices are very reasonable anyway. All food is homemade and freshly cooked to order so we didn't mind when there was a little bit of a wait. It was delicious as always.

I think a walk along the beach followed by fish n chips could definitely become a new Christmas holiday tradition - we had a lovely time and despite the cold, it was good to get out.

  1. That looks like a great way to get outside and get some much needed fresh air. Those scooters look fab, scooters seem to be becoming the in thing more than bikes are now. That last photo looks divine, is that the cod bites? I'd definitely like to try them! Thanks for linking up with Country Kids.

    1. I think scooters are just so much easier to pop in the boot. I always choose scooters when we are going somewhere but the kids love their bikes when playing out with friends at home. Oooh yes they were my cod bites - delicious!

  3. This looks so lovely! I think I need a trip to the coast for a walk as soon as possible - I'm feeling a little sluggish after being indoors for so many days stuffing my face!

  4. We have been staying inside the house too! I am thinking its time to go out and burn the calories that we gained during Christmas.

This day out looks so much fun! Makes me want to go out at the prom tomorrow and maybe we will! #countrykids

  10. It looks like you had a brilliant time. It's great that dogs are allowed on the beach, our dog would adore bouncing around in the sand and waves #beinspired
