Free places to visit in the North East this Easter - week 2

I hope you all enjoyed my guide last week, here are some ideas for FREE ACTIVITIES across our region this Easter.


Monday 14th April
Between 10:30-12noon you can drop into the Hatton gallery and create your very own Springtime picture for free.

Tuesday 15th April
There are lots of free space crafts to take part in at the Great North Museum today. These include decorating your own star to add to their mural and creating your own solar system out of paper. 11am-3pm.

Wednesday 16th April
Another fantastic event at the Great North Museum today. Between 10:30 and 3:30pm a petting zoo will be visiting the museum. You can meet owls, pythons, hedgehogs, bullfrogs, millipedes and more for free! Plus explore everything else the museum has to offer.

Thursday 17th April
It's big Thursday at the Discovery museum today and today's focus is chocolate. Find out where chocolate comes from and how it is produced as well as enjoying everything else the museum has to offer.

Today there is also a lovely little event at the Shipley Art Gallery. The story of Babar the Little Elephant will be brought to life with storytelling and music on the piano at 1:30pm. No booking required and completely free - just turn turn up.

Friday 18th April (and Saturday 19th)
A little area outside Debenhams in Intu Eldon Square is being transformed into a bunny town between 10am-4pm. There are lots of free activities including meet and greet (with photo opportunity) the Easter bunny, take part in a a Easter bunny hop and enter the bunny transformation station to be transformed into a bunny yourself.

As well as the free metro gnome panto, Super Mario's World will be visiting Intu Metrocentre There will be opportunities to play the latest games on a variety of consoles, lots of giveaways and a chance to meet Mario yourself.

Saturday 19th April
Keep your eyes peeled for the annual MAG Easter egg run which is taking part across the North East today. Check out this poster for stopping points. The event starts at Woodhorn at 10:30am and all of those bikes leaving together will be a site to see. Please take an Easter egg to donate if you can - all for a good cause.

Monday 21st April
Woodhorn is already a fantastic free attraction (car park is charged for) but there is even more value for money today. Enjoy birds of prey displays between 11am-3pm, browse the local craft stalls at their spring fair, meet and greet the Easter bunny and take part in some Easter crafts (small donation).

The Easter festival at Royal Quays  takes place today between 11am-5pm. It is jam packed with lots of free activities for all of the family. Expect live music, circus entertainers and workshops, face painting, stilt walkers, appearances from real life daleks, Punch and Judy shows and more!
