What's on Guide - February half term 2014

Welcome to our guide featuring our top pick's of things to enjoy with the family this half term.

All week
Rainy day? Why not head over the the metro centre's LEGO building event . It is completely free. Let your imagination go wild and build lots of crazy creations. There will be prizes, giveaways and appearances from the metrognomes too.

 Or why not head over to Odeon kids club where you catch Turbo for only £2.50 or Kids Am at Vue where you can catch walking with dinosaurs from only £1.75.

It is Roman Soldier week at Chester's Roman Fort. Lots of hands on activities using swords, armour and artefacts are promised. Great way to immerse yourself in history. 

Meanwhile over at Belsay Hall, why not take part in their Fairytale trail. Who knows who you may bump into?

There are week long events happening at national trust properties throughout our region too which include Science Quest at Cragside which is a 1 mile trail designed for inquisitive families and The Crafty at the Coast event at Souter lighthouse which features a different Coastal craft every day.

Saturday 15th February
The craze for roller disco's has hit Northumberland. A family roller disco is being held at Concordia leisure centre in Cramlington 5:15-6:45pm. Phone 01670 542222 for tickets (£4 each, skate hire £1)
 If you have pre-schoolers you will be pleased to hear Peppa Pig is coming to town! Peppa Pig's big splash is visiting Darlington Civic theatre. There are three performances at 10am, 1pm and 4pm. A family ticket costs £55.

Monday 17th February
Outdoor adventure at Cherryburn sounds fantastic. It includes toasting marshmallows on a campfire!

Tuesday 18th February
Room for toys at the Shipley Art Gallery sounds like fun. For ages 5+ and just £2 per child you can use the materials provided to build wonderful homes for your toys. Or why not pop down to the Hatton gallery for free between 10am-12noon and take part in their Springtime Children's art workshop. No need to book, just drop in.

Wednesday 19th February
Krafty Kids will be running drop in workshops for children at The venue in Manor Walks. 10am-11:30am and 1pm-3:30pm. Costs £3 per child. Or if you want to get back to nature why not book onto the caring for birds workshop at The Rising Sun Country Park where you will learn about how to care for birds and build your own nesting box to take home. Thursday 20th February
Today see's the return of the popular pirates and princesses event at Kirkley hall. Lots of extra activities included in the admission cost. Look out for treasure hunts with Captain Raggy beard. Another event that is sure to be popular is Firefighters: Past, Present and Future at the South Shields museum and gallery. This event is free of charge and there is a chance to dress up in a real firefighter costume. 

Or why not head over to the Great North Museum which is also a free day out. Today there will be a birds of prey demonstration at 11:30am and 3pm.

Friday 21st February
Baliffgate museum family Fridays  are back. Visit their website and download the voucher for free child entry. Expect lots of games, activities and songs between 11am and 2pm. In the evening why not visit Sundown at Gibside which is a beer garden with a difference. Let the children explore he play area while you enjoy a local real ale and some live music snuggled by the fire pits, entry is free.
