Bistro 62 - Bedlington

We decided to celebrate Valentines slightly earlier this year. The reason for this was mainly as it's easier for us to find a mid-week babysitter and over-priced, mass-cooked 'valentines special' menus are just one huge turn off for me.

We decided to re-visit Bistro 62 in Bedlington. We love this place and really wish we could visit more often. The quality of food and fantastic service make you feel like you are dining somewhere really special yet their prices are on par (or cheaper) than most high street chains!

Bistro 62 is a small 30 seater modern British restaurant. Booking is definitely recommended. All of the food they serve is fresh and cooked to order. If you visit on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evening, you can dine from the special Bistro menu - 2 courses for £11.95 or 3 courses for £14.95. When you consider the quality of the food and menu this is unbelievable value.

As soon as we opened the door to the restaurant we were welcomed and asked to choose a table. Because it is so small, you feel as if you are dining in somebody's dining room rather than a restaurant and I love that the whole restaurant was served by one fantastic waitress who really welcomed us and made us feel at ease. Service was fantastic throughout.

The ambience is relaxed and warm. The restaurant plays soft music in the background, tables are candlelit and the glassware, cutlery and china are of very good quality - all of this really feels like you are enjoying a special night out.

We were handed our menu's and ordered a bottle of wine. Complimentary fresh bread and olives arrived at our table as our wine was being poured. Nice touch!

For our starters I chose the carrot soup which was silky smooth and full of flavour. Hubby was satisfied with black pudding and chirizo starter which was beautifully presented.

There was a perfect wait between our starters and main courses. I loved my confit of lamb on a root mash and fondant potato. The gravy was particularly tasty and there was a lovely hint of rosemary throughout the dish.

My husband also thoroughly enjoyed his roast chicken breast on a red onion and potato mash with a yellow pepper purée.

The portion's are generously sized and I like that you do not have to order extra side dishes at additional cost which seems to be a sneaky trick of most higher-end restaurants these days.

We almost couldn't fit in dessert, however at the bargain price of £14.95 for 3 courses we really could not resist! Plus sticky toffee pudding was on the menu and it's my absolute favourite. I'm pleased that it was in fact very light and I had no trouble finishing the lot.

Hubby ordered the lemon posset (another favourite of ours) which finished his meal perfectly.

We wanted to make the most of our night out so ordered an espresso and Glenmorangie to finish off our evening. The coffee was of a very good standard.

I couldn't believe it when our bill for 3 courses of lovely, freshly made food for 2 people, a bottle of wine, an espresso and a whiskey was less than £50! I honestly cannot think of many places that offer this value for money (and where the service is fantastic).

Next time you are looking for somewhere special to go on date night, give Bistro 62 a go. I promise you will not be disappointed!
