Festive fayre at The Three Horseshoes, Horton.

Every year our family gets together for a Christmas night out. For the past few years we have been for a festive carvery. This is usually the cheapest option for us. However with the growing number of children in our family to supervise - a carvery can be tricky and it is hard to get everyone to eat at once.

So this year we booked a table for 15 at our local pub The Three Horseshoes.  It worked out to be fantastic value at only £11.95 for 2 courses. (1 or 3 course options are also available).

The pub is traditional in style and warm and welcoming with the focal point being a lovely Christmas tree. I love that they have a jukebox too which certainly entertained the kids.

Most of the produce used at The Three Horseshoes is sourced from local farms and butchers and delivered daily to the pub door.

Our reserved table was decorated especially for the occasion. We got into the spirit of a family get together and pulled our crackers, put on our hats and shared jokes with the table.

Only a few of us had ordered a starter and the soup especially went down a treat and it was mentioned that is was just what was needed on a cold winter's night.

Most of our group ordered a traditional turkey Christmas dinner as our main course. I was really looking forward to it as it was my first festive roast of the season! I'm glad to day I was not disappointed.

The portion's were very generous. Hand carved slices of turkey were served with a giant homemade Yorkshire pudding, creamed and roast potatoes and a not forgetting the large 'pig in blanket'.

There were lots of little touches that really made our meal special. Including extra jugs of homemade gravy brought to our table and the most amazing homemade cranberry sauce (no shop bought sauce here!).

We were also served more than enough vegetables between us.

I like how our server checked on us after 5 minutes and asked if we needed any extra vegetables or sauces.

For dessert, most of our group enjoyed homemade Christmas pudding with brandy sauce and ice cream. It was absolutely delicious.

The value for money we received here was just superb. Great service and proper homemade food with fresh produce from a 5 star rated kitchen for only £11.95 is fantastic.

Our children received half portions of everything for half the price and absolutely loved it all. Heidi especially loved her dessert as you can see.

If you didn't want to enjoy the full festive menu, the Three Horse Shoes has a fantastic main menu and regular special offers including a very popular 2 meals for £10 deal. They also have a specials board which changes regularly. At the moment you can enjoy a homemade festive burger which is is everything you'd normally enjoy on your Christmas lunch but in burger form!

So for your next family get together I would highly recommend The Three Horseshoes. It is easy to find just off the A189 between Cramlington and Blyth, has ample parking and it's cellar has received many awards for it's many real ales. There is also a fantastic play park for children which includes a treehouse, swings, slides and climbing frame.
